As I Try Not To Fall Apart Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Am I a faulty kind of man, so tender in the heart?
Are clues embedded in my hands, or horoscope or cards?
No, I'm no special grain of sand or undiscovered star
If there's a great and holy plan I'd rather have no part

[Pre-Chorus]
Ain't that the way, ain't that the way
You always unwind my head, unmake the bed like Sunday
Ain't that the way, ain't that the way
You get me talking to the dead and questioning if I'm alive at all

[Chorus]
Why every morning waking up
Must I try not to fall, must I try not to fall apart?
You take me in your grateful arms
And I try not to fall, oh I try not to fall apart
It's not the way a man like me behaves
It's not the way the world would have me play my part
Then why does every fibre shake
As I try not to fall, as I try not to fall apart?

[Verse 2]
Am I a low and lacking man, no shimmer to my soul?
Am I a spindle wound too tight, a fraction of a whole?
No, I've no party tricks, my hand is empty as a vault
If there's a charge, oh then I'll stand and do the time for every fault

[Bridge]
Ain't that the way, ain't that the way
You always unwind my head unmake the bed like Sunday
Ain't that the way, ain't that the way
You get me talking to the dead and questioning if I'm alive at all
Why every morning waking up
Must I try not to fall, must I try not to fall apart?
You take me in your grateful arms
And I try not to fall, oh I try not to fall apart
It's not the way a man like me behaves
It's not the way the world would have me play my part
Then why does every fibre shake
As I try not to fall, as I try not to fall apart?
[Outro]
As I try not to fall apart
As I try not to fall apart
As I try not to fall apart
As I try not to fall apart

What did White Lies say about "As I Try Not To Fall Apart"?
Genius Answer

We wrote this song really quickly, late one night and often the songs that come quickest are written from the gut and the heart, not with the head. We wanted the melody to feel like a hymn, to give the confessional lyrics weight despite being wrapped up as a pop song. It’s about accepting vulnerability as a man and knowing it’s OK to be broken. There’s never been a more pressing time to spread the message that it’s OK to not be OK.

What have the artists and director said about the song's video?
Genius Answer

According to Clash Music, director James Arden said:

“The track made me think of people trying to lift themselves out of emotional spirals – navigating feelings of fragility and fighting everyday pressures just so they can keep it together – and it made me think about how we can be buried and overwhelmed by our feelings and emotions, and how we could explore that, visually.”

Frontman Harry McVeigh said that “Being buried in sand was too mad to pass up. The sensation was really chilling and I was picking sand out of my ears for days, but I’m thrilled with the video, it really carries the message of the song and it looks beautiful.”
