United Kingdom Malcolm X 4K UHD (1992) (UK)

Icon will be releasing Spike Lee's Malcolm X on 4K UHD in the UK on July 15th.

Quote:
On this special collector's edition, experience this sweeping biographical epic like never before, with 30 minutes of deleted scenes and a limited edition poster and art card set. Denzel Washington stars in a career-best performance as Malcolm X, one of the most charismatic and divisive political voices in American history. From poverty to prominence, from hustler to humanist, Malcolm X and his ideologies touched the lives of millions and continue to inspire and enlighten. The complex life of this endlessly fascinating civil rights leader is traced in magnificent detail, held together by the vision of director Spike Lee, who masterfully combines historical and contemporary perspectives to create one of the most ambitious, expansive, and acclaimed biographical dramas of all time.

I've been wanting to pick this title up at some point. How does Icon's compression compare to Criterion's in general?

They've only released one UHD so far (The Dreamers) but it was encoded by Fidelity in Motion. UK labels stay winning!

Criterion's 4k UHD is nice, but if Icon uses FiM, I might get it.

But there is no slip surrounding a collector's edition. What I do I do?

Oo, very interesting. Been meaning to pick up the Criterion so this is welcome news. Hoping we see more catalogue stuff direct from Icon.

In terms of extras, Criterion easily wins. This only has 30 minutes of deleted scenes vs a stacked set of new and legacy supplements on the Criterion release (see list below). Criterion's release looks great, bu if FiM are behind the UK release, then it'll likely be even better.

IIRC that FIM did the encode of the Dreamers was just our guess/hope... or am I missing something?

Well if it is FiM, that's great news. If it's someone else delivering to their standard, that's even better news.
