  • NYY Starting Pitcher #45
Cole threw a 43-pitch simulated game Thursday, and now he’ll get a chance to face minor-league hitters as the next stop in his progression. The 33-year-old has missed all of 2024 thus far with his elbow injury, but assuming there are no setbacks, it’s likely the 2023 Cy Young winner will be back in action in the middle of June.
  • WAS Shortstop #5
Abrams was a late scratch from the lineup for Saturday’s tilt with Cleveland because of illness, but it was deemed precautionary, and being inserted into the lineup a day later suggests it was just that.
  • TOR First Baseman #27
It’s the first time Guerrero Jr. has drawn a start at third base since 2019. The 25-year-old has been working at the position during pregame festivities all season, but now he has a chance to man the hot corner for real. This will be interesting to watch, and it’d obviously be a major boon to his fantasy profile if he can get enough games at the position to qualify.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #52
Wacha was seen using a walking boot Friday after being hit with a line drive during Friday’s start, and the Royals aren’t going to take any chances with the 32-year-old. This likely won’t be a minimum stint on the injured list, but his status should be updated in the coming days. Daniel Lynch was recalled to take Wacha’s place on the roster.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #18
Yamamoto punched out seven batters for the third consecutive start and limited Colorado’s lineup to just a second-inning sacrifice fly from Brenton Doyle over six strong frames. The 25-year-old rookie right-hander has been phenomenal so far in his Dodgers debut, allowing three earned runs or fewer in nine of his 12 starts this season. He’ll carry a solid 3.32 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 76/14 K/BB ratio across 65 innings (12 starts) into a highly-anticipated road tilt on Friday against the Yankees.
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Judge took Giants ace Logan Webb deep to left-center field in the opening frame for his major league-leading 21st round-tripper of the season. The 32-year-old fantasy superstar became the first hitter this year to reach the 20-homer plateau with a two home run outburst during Friday’s series opener at spacious Oracle Park, finishing the month of May with an astronomical .361/.479/.918 triple-slash line with 14 homers and 27 RBI across 28 games. The Southern California native is clearly enjoying his time back in the Bay Area and finds himself in the midst of one of the hottest stretches of his career with eight homers over his last 10 games since May 22.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Alvarez also drew a walk. The 26-year-old slugger took Joe Ryan deep with a runner on in the first, and did more damage against Ryan with a solo shot in the fifth. That ups Alvarez’s total to 11 roundtrippers on the year, and he’s plated 25 over the first 59 games of the season for the Astros. Alvarez has been as good as any hitter in baseball the last few years, and it’s the only reason why those numbers and a .283/.357/.480 slash seem slightly disappointing.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #11
Darvish was originally believed to be dealing with a hamstring issue, but it turns out to be a groin strain that will keep him sidelined for at least a few weeks. The 37-year-old righty lasted just three innings on Wednesday against the Marlins before exiting due to hamstring tightness and holds a solid 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 53/15 K/BB ratio over 56 1/3 innings (11 starts) this season. There should be a clearer timetable for his return at some point in the coming days.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #44
Musgrove lasted just two starts before an elbow issue winds up sending him back on the shelf. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Musgrove is dealing with a recurring triceps/elbow issue, which “is not believed at this time to be a season-ending injury.” The fact that the term season-ending is even being brought up here isn’t an encouraging sign. It certainly doesn’t sound great and fantasy managers should anticipate Musgrove returning anytime soon. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days once he undergoes some additional imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. Stay tuned.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #68
Romano heads to the injured list after being unavailable Friday due to elbow soreness. The 31-year-old stopper underwent an MRI on Friday that didn’t reveal any structural damage, which is an encouraging development. There should be a clearer timetable for his return at some point in the coming days once he’s cleared to resume throwing. Fantasy managers should anticipate him missing at least a few weeks. It’ll most likely be Yimi García or Chad Green taking over as Toronto’s temporary closer for now.
