Katherine Tollemache (abt.1661-abt.1705) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree
Lady Katherine Tollemache (in some sources her first name is spelled as Catherine) was the youngest daughter of Elizabeth Murray, Countess of Dysart, and her first husband Lionel Tollemache, 3rd Baronet, and was baptised in 1661 at Fakenham Magna (Great Fakenham) in Suffolk, England[1] and presumably born that year. She was the second daughter of that name, an earlier Catherine died young and was buried at Helmingham 1 October 1658.[1]
First marriage and children
A contract was signed 26 December 1677 for her marriage to James Stuart, known as Lord Doune, eldest son and heir of Alexander Stuart, 5th Earl of Moray and his wife Emilia Balfour, and they were married on Wednesday 29 December 1677, [2] perhaps at Edinburgh.[3]
They had two daughters;
Lady Elizabeth Stuart, married 3 December 1698 to Alexander Grant of Grant, with a tocher of £5000 sterling bequeated to her by her maternal grandmother, and died without surviving issue 22 April 1708;[4]
Lady Emilia Stuart, married firstly Alexander Fraser of Strichen, and secondly John Lindsay, 19th Earl of Crawford, and died 18 February 1711[4] having had issue from both marriages;[2]
James Stuart Lord Doune, died before his father in 1693 or later, and definitely after 19 October 1693 when he granted a lease.[2]
Lady Katherine Tollemache, Countess of Sutherland died about 1705[6] though there appear to be no primary sources that confirm this date. Where she was buried also appears to be unknown.
