That's too bad about Hiram. He was a free spirit to say the least. I believe he produced Mike Stern's first album and was at University of Miami when Jaco and Pat Matheny were teaching there and Steve Morse was forming the Dregs. I saw him in the early 80's with Sanborn and he was playing with no shoes and using a wireless guitar so he could run all over the auditorium during his solos. He was not worried about blowing anyone away he was just having fun.

Jelly Bean

DAMN YOU Hiram!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark LeSage

I really miss his playing on the Letterman show. The current guitarists just don't groove in the pocket like Hiram did, IMHO.

And one more thing... It was Hiram's playing on the Letterman theme song that made that tune stick in my head all day long. What the hell has Shaffer done to the arrangement of the theme song anyway, ruined it, that's what. You can barely pick out the original melody and guitar riffs. The arrangement that the World's Most Dangerous Band played blows away the current one, again, IMHO.

And one more thing... sorry for the ranting post. I'm sure lot's of people prefer the new arrangement. To each his/her own...

Tim Lofthouse

Just by chance on Sunday I put on a DVD of Marcus Miller in Tokyo. My fave bit of Hiram is where he comes to front stage and gives a real cool big fat swagger before starting his solo. Even Kenny Garrett nearly smiles at him.
He will be sadly missed.

David

A great player, beautiful tone and melodic approach. Sorely missed.

I agree with Jelly Bean...DAMN YOU.
I am so angry that he is gone for reasons
that are just plain damn stupid! We all loved
the guy and his music. Considering how many people
he has seen come and go I thought he would be wiser.

We'll miss that great creamy, thick and smooth sound

I just learned of this great loss. Hiram's playing on "You send me" with Al Jarreau is one of my favorites. It seems that the great New York musicians have passed way too soon.
