Such a disappointment for what we were hoping was going to be our very special 30th wedding anniversary celebration. We had a booking for 7:30 and we arrived at 7:25pm and the restaurant is locked - huge queue blocking the pavement spilling into the street they were all also booked for 7:30. You would think opening at 7:20 would be the polite thing to do, instead of having to queue outside like naughty children. Once seated at 7:40pm there was another couple at the table 6 inches from ours - we heard every word of their conversation and them others, even though both tables we’re trying to whisper. The only redeeming thing about the evening was our lovely waiter.

I’m not sure what to write really…we were recommended Trattoria Cammillo by two contacts - both Florentine locals. We had high hopes and in some ways it did deliver. The atmosphere was buzzy and everyone looked to be enjoying their food. But having had a fantastic meal the night before at a similar style family run trattoria - it just didn’t do it for us!
I think it is probably the perfect place for local regulars who have a good relationship with the staff - but
potentially a victim of its own success.
The steak was good but not great and the same went for the highly rated tiramisu …
I was also really unimpressed with the waiter asking us if we wanted to put a gratuity on… it was slightly crass!

Serving Florence since 1945 Trattoria Cammillo is where affluent locals go for homestyle cooking, though thanks to social media the space has landed on several lists with an associated influx of tourists able to make a reservation by phone since Cammillo has no website.
Cozy with white-tablecloths and veteran servers, the arched brick ceiling stretching over marble floors, diners begin to arrive around noon for lunch when the same extensive menu as dinner is served until 14h30.
Attesting to an older time, faded paintings and fixtures with a patina part of the charm, it is after perusing a large Wine list that Bread arrives followed by a selection of Cured Meats at a tab more precious than many but largely justified by the quality.
Happy to defer an order to the waiter, a man who has been with the Trattoria for two decades, Tortellini en Brodo comes in a generous portion with good depth of flavor while Homemade Tagleirini with Ham and Artichoke Sauce is mild yet enjoyable.
Faced with difficult decisions for Secondi, a number of plates featuring Offal juxtaposing Florentine classics, fans of Rabbit will find Cammillo fried version satisfying while Trippa alla fiorentina is rigorously cleaned and cooked in Tomatoes with a hint of Vinegar and Wine.

52 years and still coming back. You better make reservations in advance as we watched them turn people away, and this is a slow time. We always eat the zucchini flowers as most other places stuff them with cheese, and we like them without. The steak is good as is their pastas. A large menu, and good deserts. The waiters are all great, but ours was a newbie with only 7 years😁 but he was great too. Their waiter with the longest tenure of 38 years was retiring a week after our visit. We seen this a few times in the past.

I liked it here a lot. The staff was excellent and very accommodating to a bunch of who decided to eat there late. Welcomed us and treated us like rock stars with excellent meal. Find these places while you’re in Florence and not the touristy ones

The first time I went to Cammillo was about 15 years ago. I've been back a few times during visits to Florence. We went back this week after not having been there in a few years. It is still a great traditional Tuscan restaurant. Cozy with an outgoing, honestly enthusiastic staff. Nothing fake about it. It's always packed with locals so be sure to call for a reservation.

Another must try when in Florence.
Cammillo is bit more upscale than its competition but is also a less known spot for tourists. Only true homemade meals are produced in this warm, cozy, exposed-brick-ceiling establishment. God I love some exposed brick.
I went with the homemade pappardelle in a kissing garlic flowers sauce, as it was recommended by this regal older lady next to me who was also eating alone. I've found these opinions are to always be trusted.
They serve the olive oil for salads in this cool can that I thought was a nice touch, and they also have really good breadsticks that I was F'in up ahahaha.

A wonderful welcoming family restaurant with traditional food beautifully prepared. The place was packed - you have to book but only by phone - and the service was warm and attentive. Thoroughly recommend!

Charming, friendly service from the young, and older, wait staff. Excellent tortellini in brodo (the broth was delicious) and the contorni were very good too. Topped off by perfect affogatto with Vivoli ice cream. Loved there old style 'typed' menu listing.
