Obituary of Stanley John Lucas Sr.

IN THE CARE OF

Apex Funeral Home

Stanley John Lucas Sr, age of 96 from Apex, passed away on December 10, 2022, surrounded by family at Transitions LifeCare. Stanley was born on October 25, 1926 in Carbondale, PA to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Lucas. He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy as a First Class Seaman. After serving in the Philippines, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1951. He married the love of his life, Catherine (“Kay”) Lucas, the weekend before his graduation, and they were inseparable until she passed in 2018. Stan worked for over 25 years at IBM, retiring in 1987. He continued to stay in touch with his IBM friends, and thoroughly enjoyed playing Pinochle with them up until his passing. Stan was above all passionate and proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be forever remembered for his stubborn, yet loving personality; loyalty and devotion to his family; tireless work ethic; love of Penn State athletics; and for his joyous laughter and smile. During his retirement years, he loved to share his variety of handmade crafts with friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom, Joe, Vincent; and wife and soulmate of 71 years, Kay. He will be lovingly remembered by their three sons, Bob (Jan), Stan Jr. (Kathy), and Dan (Tabitha); eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and his extended family. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Transitions LifeCare for the compassionate care they have provided over the last few years. They have been a great comfort to all of us. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Fond memories and expressions of condolences can be shared online at apexfuneral.net for the Lucas family.
