So there you have it, we now know the 26 men chosen to win the European Championship for England.

  2. 'Absolutely delighted' - Trippier

Kieran Trippier is sitting alongside manager Gareth Southgate.

The Atletico Madrid defender says it's a "very special moment" to be included in the squad.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be in the 26 and looking forward to get to the tournament now and helping out," he said.

"I know the competition I have got in the right back position. It's just about playing well for my club, and I feel like I have done that this season."

Was Trippier surprised Southgate went for all four right-backs?

"There are four quality right-backs and as Gareth has said, we can all play in different positions to help the team," he said.

"As competitive right-backs, we just want to help each other and help the team - and all four of us will do that."

  3. Get Involved - has Southgate got it right?

    #bbcfootball

Tiger: To everyone who thinks Southgate has picked 4 right backs I think he intends to play a back 3 with Walker as a right sided centre back. I also think both Mount & Foden are ahead of Lingard so taking Bellingham for experience the right call.

  4. 'I probably would've picked more right-backs'

One of the big talking points before the announcement was how many right-backs would Gareth Southgate would pick for his England squad.

Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and Kyle Walker were all in contention for the defensive spot.

In the end, as it turned out, he wanted all four.

Southgate said: "Basically, they are in our best 26 footballers, that's why they are in the squad. If I could've picked a fifth or a sixth right-back... I probably would have done!"

  5. 'Open to change'

Does Gareth Southgate know his starting XI to face Croatia on 13 June?

"Everybody wants to play and that can affect our decision making in these two matches and the training sessions in the lead up." said Southgate.

"We have got a very good idea of what we want to do, but that's always got to be open to change - and that's the opportunity the players have in the next two games."

  6. 'We can beat anyone on our day'

Back to Gareth Southgate now, and with the Euros starting on 11 June, the England boss says he is focused on the next few weeks and nothing more.

"We can't look any further than the group stage at the moment," he said.

"We play World Cup finalists [Croatia] in our first game, we have a derby with Scotland, and then we have the Czech Republic, who are one of the best teams in Europe.

"Our focus us on Croatia in a couple of weeks time and then everything builds from there. But there are eight to 10 teams who could win the tournament.

"We have proved that we can beat anyone on our day - but we have to show that consistently in the tournament."

His manager may have just left Goodison Park but Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still in a good mood thanks to his England call-up.

  8. BreakingThe return of Carlo

Staying with the topic of managers but moving away from international football briefly now...

Real Madrid have appointed Carlo Ancelotti for a second time after his exit from Goodison Park.

The move leaves Everton searching for a sixth permanent manager in five years.

  9. 'We're looking forward to seeing the fans'

All three of England's group games will be at Wembley and manager Gareth Southgate says his players cannot wait to play in front of fans again.

"It's exciting for the players to be playing at Wembley and with fans in the stadium - we're looking forward to that," he said.

"I know some of the clubs have played in front of fans but we haven't had that opportunity yet, so we're really looking forward to it.

"It's a great shame some players haven't played for England in front of fans. Some who have made their debuts haven't had family there.

"The fans are such a missing piece. If you've waited all your life to play for England, you want to invite your family - and we haven't been able to do that.

"We won't win matches just because we're at home, we need to play well. We've seen over the last 18 months, it hasn't been the same without full stadiums, so we hope with the fans coming back the fans will have an influence on that."

  10. Get Involved - has Southgate got it right?

    #bbcfootball

Jock: Great squad. No complaints. It's coming home.

Jack: We’ll all disagree with Southgate’s tactics, formation and starting 11, but at least (bar Ward-Prowse) he’s got the squad right and has lots of class at his disposal. England just need to get it right, that squad can win this tournament.

  11. 'You never want to give bad news'

On the six players left out of the squad, Southgate said they showed true professionalism when told they would not be part of England's plans.

"You never want to give bad news," he said. "It's lovely to give people debuts and bring them into the squad for the first time, but it's much harder to deliver difficult news.

"With the lads this time - there were three who knew they were coming in for the experience of training with us and for these two matches - and we're really pleased with Ben White, Ben Godfrey and Aaron Ramsdale. They have added a lot to the group.

"For me personally, very difficult to speak to Jesse Lingard, who has given so much for England over a long period of time. James Ward-Prowse, who has captained the under-21s, and Ollie Watkins, who has had a tremendous season with Aston Villa.

"Those three, I gave them the option of going home, but they were all adamant they wanted to stay and be a part of the group. I think Jesse will probably start tomorrow.

"Their commitment and professionalism has been exemplary and it meant yesterday afternoon when I had the conversation with those players, although they were disappointed, they knew where they stood and the atmosphere around the camp has stayed positive."

  12. The numbers on the shirts

What do the squad numbers tell us..?

Probably not a lot, but the players will now know what number they will wear at the tournament.

No surprises for guessing the number nine...

Gareth Southgate also says the England squad has a "club like environment", which is a big help to the young players trying to integrate into the side.

  14. 'We're not taking any tourists'

Gareth Southgate says every player is there to make a difference and there won't be any "tourists".

"The experienced players are the ones that know how to win and have been in tournaments before and driven the team," said Southgate.

"You need that balance. There are the young players that come in and give it energy - we're not taking any tourists here, we've got a squad which every one of whom is ready to play and contribute.

"That's really important because over the next nine matches we hope to be involved in, we're going to need everybody. That experience in the positional mix is really important."

  15. 'Experience'

More now from Gareth Southgate on his decision on which players to take to Euro 2020 this summer.

"The most complex part has been those injuries and whether we should take the chance on people - players like Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire not being quite where they normally are," said England boss Gareth Southgate.

"With the experience that they have, we think we can get them to a point where they have an involvement in the tournament and it's worth taking them - especially as we have an extended squad of 26."

  16. BreakingDropped players available for friendlies

England boss Gareth Southgate has just confirmed that the six players who have been dropped from the squad will all be available for the two upcoming warm-up matches.

The Three Lions face Austria on Wednesday (20:00 BST), before facing Romania on Sunday (17:00).

  17. 'Most difficult thing was leaving out previous squad members'

Gareth Southgate added: "I think every squad [selection] is difficult because we have a lot of talented players in this country. The most difficult thing [this time] is not being able to take players who have been with us in previous matches and are such good professionals so I know what a disappointment it is for them, at the moment, not to be going to a major championship.

"We still have two friendlies and there have been plenty of examples over the years where there have been injuries that have ruled people out so there's still time for those guys, even though they're not in at this moment in time."
