The twenty-third season of Law & Order was confirmed on April 10, 2023. It was slated to premiere in September 2023, but due to the 2023 Writers and Screen Actors Guilds Strike, the season premiered on January 18, 2024 and concluded on May 16, 2024. It is the first season to feature Reid Scott as Detective Vincent Riley and Tony Goldwyn as District Attorney Nicholas Baxter as well as the last to feature Sam Waterston as District Attorney Jack McCoy and Camryn Manheim as Lieutenant Kate Dixon. It is also the first season not to feature any crossover characters from any other shows in the franchise or any former main characters since the twentieth season. It contained the 500th episode of the series. It aired alongside Season 25 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Season 4 of Law & Order: Organized Crime.
