As temperatures rise, the cinema is where we’ll be aaaaall summer long to chill
(in every sense of the word). Summer 2024 brings a wave of buzzy movie releases to the big screen. This season’s line-up goes far beyond your usual summer adventure flicks, with tales of natural disasters, alien invasions, tween emotions, and, much to our delight, some Glen Powell and Austin Butler action. Popcorn at the ready, here’s your ultimate cinema date schedule. Thank us later.

Inside Out 2

Releasing June 13.

The highly-anticipated sequel to Pixar’s Inside Out is finally here this summer. Riley, the girl whose emotions drive the story, is now officially a teenager, which means a few new emotions are joining Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust inside her head. And when Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment take over Riley’s emotional control, it’ll be up to the core five to help her get back on track.

The Watchers

Releasing June 13.

Ishana Night Shyamalan (M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter) makes her directorial debut with The Watchers, a horror movie about a group of strangers who become trapped in the middle of an untouched forest where unseen creatures watch them at night. The trailer doesn’t give too much away other than the fact that the film looks creepy AF and stars Dakota Fanning.

The Bikeriders

Releasing June 20.

Calling all Austin Butler fans! You’re not gonna want to miss The Bikeriders, a gritty period drama starring a slightly still Elvis-toned Butler as Benny, a young member of the bikers club The Vandals. As the motorcycle club gets more and more violent and dangerous, Benny will have to choose whether to be loyal to the unpredictable leader, Johnny (Tom Hardy), or to try to go his own way.

A Quiet Place: Day 1

Releasing June 27.

While A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II focuses on the survival of the Abbott family, A Quiet Place: Day One goes back to the beginning of the invasion, tracking one woman’s desperate search for safety on the day killer aliens arrive on earth. The film stars Lupita Nyong’o and Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn alongside Djimon Hounsou, who will reprise his role from Part II.

Twisters

Releasing July 18.

This revival of Twister, the 1996 natural disaster action-romance movie, combines everything you want from a summer movie. And by that, we mean that it stars Glen Powell as a cocky cowboy storm chaser and Daisy Edgar-Jones as a scientist on a mission to end tornadoes with inexplicable technology. Seriously, what more could you possibly want?

Deadpool & Wolverine

Releasing July 25.

We can’t even remember the last summer that went by without a major Marvel release. This year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe summer blockbuster is Deadpool & Wolverine, a movie that will finally bring Deadpool’s R-rated world into the MCU. But the real draw is getting to see Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman face off onscreen.

Trap

Releasing August 8.

Thrillers are having a moment this summer, and you’ll for sure be on the edge of your cinema seat for this one. M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, follows a father, played by Josh Hartnett, and his teenage daughter as they attend a pop concert, only to discover they’re at the centre of a trap to find a serial killer. Warning: the plot twist in this movie will leave you *shook*.

Blink Twice

Releasing August 22.

When Frida is whisked away by tech mogul Slater King for a dream vacation on his private island, she quickly realizes paradise isn’t all it seems. A directorial debut from Zoe Kravitz and starring her beau Channing Tatum (erm hello, couple goals), Blink Twice is the psychological thriller/summer rom-com cross-over we didn’t know we needed.

ICYMI, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga UAE release date is almost here.
