The New York Yankees thrashed the Houston Astros 10-3 in Justin Verlander's return to New York in a game in which he was not only overshadowed on the scoreboard, but also in the stands by the presence of his wife Kate Upton.

The supermodel was caught on camera during the game chatting with Amy Cole, the wife of Yankees star pitcher Gerrit Cole, who has not pitched this season due to an elbow injury but is in the final stages of recovery and is expected to return in June.

Verlander and Cole were teammates on the Astros and that's where the friendship between Kate and Amy comes from, and they seemed unconcerned about what was happening on the field, even though Justin wasn't doing so well in the game after allowing seven runs in five innings on the mound.

Upton was seen in good conversation with Amy, as evidenced by her confession in a recent interview, in which she said she identified more with the starters' wives.

"I think pitchers' wives are a little different than position players' wives, because position players' wives play every game, so they can't be as connected to every play. I feel like there's an energy, a more nervous energy, with the starters' wives, because it's once every five days," Upton said.

Justin Verlander loses his first game of the season

Justin Verlander did not fare well at Yankee Stadium, allowing his second most runs in 37 starts against the Bronx Bombers, the worst coming in 2008 when he conceded eight in a 13-9 loss while pitching for the Detroit Tigers.

"If I'm brutally honest with myself, the last two games, probably in particular, the base on balls showed me I was a little off. Sometimes you have to face a team that knows you intimately, and vice versa, to start over. I think these guys showed me today that I've got some work to do," said Verlander, who played just his fourth game after missing the season opener with right shoulder inflammation.
