Notes

This release comprises reconfigured and expanded versions of the first two albums by Scud Mountain Boys. Both were recorded in member Bruce Tull's kitchen. The compilation was reissued with new artwork by Ashmont Records/One Little Indian in 2011.

Pine Box was originally a self-released cassette, reissued on vinyl by Northampton MA label Chunk Records in 1995 (CH1009), soon after the release of Dance The Night Away (CH1007). Pine Box features 10 tracks on the LP, expanded to 14 tracks on The Early Year by tracks 1-5, 1-6, 1-10 and 1-14. Dance The Night Away was originally a 15 track CD, reduced to 13 tracks here; Peter Graves' Anatomy and Reservoir (both of which also appear on Pine Box) have been omitted; Sweet Sally and Closing Time have been moved to CD1 (1-6, 1-14); and the previously unissued Blood and Bones (2-8) and Fiery Coffin (2-12) have been added. The two versions of Silo (1-1, 2-9) and Freight Of Fire (1-5, 2-1) are different recordings.

Still miss these guys! The two records have some real gems burried in the mix, surprisingly it's the cover's that hook you first... all superior results. And 'Sangre de Cristo' has to be one of their finest songs. Recommended
