Bringing us ugly memories from our own quarantines, Alone at Night follows a young woman named Vicky who is isolating herself. The whole look of the movie screams quarantine times; there are very few people at the same time on screen, many shots are through webcams, and there seem to be very few locations.
This could work expertly as horror doesn't always need spectacle. Atmosphere can go a long way, and there aren't many things that cause feelings of anxiety and discomfort more than isolation does.
Alone at Night: The Plot
A young woman named Vicky isolates herself in a small cabin away from other people. Her boyfriend has just kicked her out of the house, so she is in desperate need of some money. She decides to do acts in front of a webcam for viewers willing to pay to watch her.
Vicky soon realizes that there are watchers who are playing a mysterious game involving her—a game where she could lose her own life.
Alone at Night: The Cast
Ashley Benson, previously known for her roles in Pretty Little Liars and Spring Breakers among many others, is playing the part of Vicky, the main character. Luiz Guzman is also appearing on the movie, who is enjoying some popularity after his part as Gomez Adams in Netflix’s Wednesday. Exciting is the return of Paris Hilton in a horror movie, after many attempts like the 2005’s House of Wax, this time playing the part of some host of the show going on, without the main character’s knowledge.
Also starring in Alone at Night is Jake Weary, a veteran of horror movies after his appearances in It Follows, IT: chapter 2, and Fred: the Movie. Actress and composer Sky Ferreira is playing in the movie, another experienced actress in horror from movies like The Green Inferno, while also she composed for another dark film dealing with gender violence in the 2020's excellent Promising Young Woman.
Known from his roles in Billboard and Born Again Dead, in the movie we have John Robinson, Jon Foster known from Like Father and Poor Boy, along with famous rapper G-Eazy and Tyler Dean Flores who has previously appeared in Dark Knight Rises, Already Gone, and Birthday Cake. The Canadian fashion model, spokesperson, activist, and actress Winnie Harlow brings her charm in this movie as well, with Clara McGregor previously seen in Christopher Robin, The Birthday Cake, and Reefa. The cast is completed with Lindsey Pelas known from her roles in Extraction, Englishman in L.A.: the Movie, and the Bay, Janice Blue from All Who Loved Her, Clowning, and Gentefied, and Cassius Corrigan who also appeared in the Birthday Cake, but also wrote Cartel, the Caregiver, and Haracan.
