Max is the weapons operator on board the Achilles.

Events of The Last Ship[]

When Niels Sørenson is brought aboard the Achilles, Sean goes past Max to grab a beer and personally introduces Niels to Max. Max later seen celebrating with the crew when he hears that Konstantin Ruskov was killed by the Nathan James. When they detect the Nathan James, Max calculates a route to intercept and arms the torpedoes to fire. Max urges Sean to give the order to fire before they get into range of the Nathan James' weapons but Sean remains patient. After the ship disappears from passive sonar, Max later argues with Declan saying they should fire now before they do before Ian breaks it up.

Sean is reviewing his options when Ned suggests going active sonar, which Sean is reluctant to do. After Max tells Sean that he can target the ship in less than a minute after going active sonar, Sean gives the order to go active sonar and Max fires four torpedoes at the Nathan James. When the Nathan James fires torpedoes at the Achilles in response, Max suggests firing again since they have a bearing now but Sean instead orders a crash dive to avoid the incoming torpedoes. Max starts to worry that the hull will buckle under the pressure of scrapping the bottom of the ocean. (“Achilles”)

While Max is relaxing and telling Oliver a joke while the sub is being repaired, Ian come over and interrupts them. Ian states that just because the Ramseys are off the ship is no reason to get lazy and when he reminds everyone of his rank, Max adds that he is getting upset over nothing and Ian tells him to shut up. (“Long Day's Journey”)

After Henrik discovers the buoy they were using to transmit communications to Sean on land was destroyed, Henrik suggests warning Sean while Declan advises against this. Max weighs in, saying they haven't heard from the ship in hours they have to be far enough away for them no to notice. Declan counters that they could be there, they just can't hear them and Max starts angrily arguing with Declan before Ian tells them to shut up. When Declan finds the Nathan James on their radar, Max quickly suggests taking the first shot, but Ian says they can't move. Max states they can but Ian counters that the sub is still be repaired and if they move now they will be loud enough for the Nathan James to hear them. Despite this, Max still encourages them to fire on the ship, stating it's what Sean would want but Ian corrects him by saying it is what Ned would want. When Declan states they are heading for their compound on land, Max raises his voice telling Ian to take the shot. Ian eventually decides to surface and radio Sean, who give the order to fire on the Nathan James. Max loads the torpedoes and Ian tells him to be ready to fire on his order, but they disappear from radar before they can launch an attack. (“Alone and Unafraid”)

After they get reports of the Nathan James in Quarantine Bay, Sean tells Max to have Ian prepare the rocket battery in preparation to sink that ship. When they realize the ship is right above them, Max suggests firing on them right now, despite there isn't that much distance between the Achilles and Nathan James. Sean says to hold off until they hit open water and Max arms the torpedoes for when that happens. The minute they dive far enough, Max fires the torpedoes while the Nathan James does to and braces for impact.

The Achilles turns around to fire again and Max arms them but before he can launch them their own rocket battery opens fire on them. Realizing that the sub is going down, Max tries to abandon ship to with the rest of the crew but Sean and Ned hold guns to them trying to get them to stay, with Sean screaming that they are "chosen". The Nathan James and rocket battery fire consecutively on the Achilles, sinking it and taking the crew, including Max, with it. (“Cry Havoc”)
