- Agree with the comments. That this is the most "valuable" item so far in my EM collection strikes me as odd, considering the mediocre quality (I think I got mine fairly cheap). A true soundtrack from the master tapes seems be the Holy Grail of Ennio Morricone scores.
- Yep, pretty crappy rendition of this famous Morricone score. Disappointing to say the least. Lot of the original film music missing entirely, and the stuff not previously released on this disc is all lifted from the DVD. Hopefully a true restoration is coming, but by now it appears doubtful since it's been nearly sixty years since the film was released.
- The weakest GDM CD, for the Ennio Morricone soundtracks, as recordings with film noises were used here.
The sound quality varies from very good to very bad!
In the meantime, the rare pieces have been found in the archives without the annoying film noises.
A release on a CD is probably only a matter of time.
So if you want to pay for the high prices here, you should wait until the pieces finally appear in excellent sound quality.
The latest 3-CD set "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly-Expended-MGM-Original-Motion Picture Soundtrack" from Quartet-Records gives hope! - Not completely agree with the previous comment. The original 1965 album tracks (3,4,5,11,15,17,19,20) are taken from the original master tape. Also the two bonus tracks (21,22) are taken from the original master tape.
- Edited 5 years agoThis could have been a great release, but they ruined it by simply lifting in direct-recordings of the film with all sfx rather than actually going back to the master tapes (like they did with the great "C'Era Una Volta Il West" expanded score)
It's also using very poorly done digital noise-reduction. You can clearly hear all the muddy artifacts this caused. Especially in quiet passages.
