Everything about this book has been wonderfully informative and well written. She had so much talent and no other actress could come close to her best performances in her roles. Many required both beauty, depth and an intuition on unlocking the frailties of the character she was playing.

Through reading this book I learned a very frustrating bit of information about the studio system. In the 1940s Paramount had too many starlets under contract just so they could loan them out to other studios for a nice profit. Usually this was not advantageous for the actress. This was done to Susan a lot. Also, whenever Paramount got angry with Susan because they never really got to know her, Paramount would put her on suspension. So all through Susan's 20s the month's slipped by in mostly minor films and loan outs. Obviously for Susan, Paramount was not a good fit.

I was named after Susan Hayward - my parents loved her and I do as well...there just aren't too many of her movies that I can't watch without my trusty friend Kleenex...Ms. Hayward was one tough "broad" - and thank goodness she was or we might not be able to see her work...through Ms. Hayward's performances, I was introduced to Lillian Roth, Jane Froman and Barbara Graham....it still aches to know that she has passed but thankfully her movies are still being shown and produced on DVD....
