It has been some considerable time since viewing "Frequency" in all its constructive context. It was a film that I remember thoroughly enjoying within the time of its release, even though I was considerably younger than now. Upon the arrival of the film again, I knew that it had an interesting build of science fiction time-based properties, and a whole lot of feel-good family dynamic energy within. Also, with that being recognized, I also know that items right at the turn of the century, the dreaded onslaught overused CGI properties within initial refinement, hasn't always aged the best. This is a corny, melodramatic time-travel thriller about a son in the present day who communicates with his father… in 1969.
And yet, I loved it anyway.
This great story, terrifically involving and twisty, is filmed with stylish camera work and undeniable charm by its two leads, the inimitable Dennis Quaid (looking good as always) and the fine Jim Caviezel.
"Frequency" stuck with me for awhile, not only because of its nifty premise, but also of its sheer sweet ol’American spirit.
Gregory Hoblit's "Frequency" is a feel-good science fiction crowd-pleaser that knows how to push the right emotional buttons. Sharply executed and excitingly told, the film is a well-assembled and entertaining piece of work.
"Frequency" is built around a father and son pairing who work together to stop a murderer. The narrative catch, however, is that that duo is separated by thirty years, communicating though time via HAM radio and solar storms. "Frequency" folds parent-child drama, law-enforcement thriller, and science fiction genre conventions into its narrative mix. It is a mostly seamless blend, resulting in something engaging, thrilling, and warm.

For me, this story’s so damn easy to get into and just the idea of it gets me emotional. Plenty of awesome twists that keep you at the edge of your seat. I mean messing with time usually never ends good, yet sure as hell makes for some good entertainment. Great characters too and everything with the father/son works brilliantly. The only thing working against it, is how convenient this story can be at times. Outside of that, it’s such an enthralling ride from start to finish and you feel like every move matters. Plus that ending always gets me and I can’t recommend enough! 8.8/10👩🚒

Resolving your dad issues is as simple as inadvertently causing and then solving your mother's murder at the hands of a serial killer by way of a temporal paradox involving a HAM radio and the Aurora Borealis. This is too silly to be so dull.
Moving, creative and cosmic, Frequency is an underrated sci-fi thriller that is highly absorbing and can easily connect emotionally.
Centered around a father and his son from the future who contact via a mysterious radio, Frequency has a twisted, exciting and heartwarming plot that requires a bit of a leap of faith to dive into, but the payback is incredible. It involves death, murder and the concept of time travel, and mixes them with high suspense to create an effective, unpredictable mystery-solving process.
Acting wise Frequency is top-notch too, featuring convincing performances from both Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel, who played out the father-son duo to the bone. Style-wise it's very hits and misses since some scenes were approached with admiring effects, while others are just plain banal and cliched. Recommended.
What’s the Frequency Kenneth?
So here’s a movie I’d completely forgotten about.
It’s premise is similar to last years Don’t Let Go, but rather than using cell phones, the past and the future connect via the aurora borealis and a ham radio. Don’t overthink it. This movie relies way more on fantasy than science-fiction.
It’s nowhere near as smart as something like Looper, but there’s a few nice twists and Dennis Quaid makes the whole thing watchable.
Oh, and time travel makes my brain hurt, but in a good way.
