One of my favorite things about Netflix is that the streaming service doesn't just offer its own content the company has produced, but it also has shows and movies created by other studios as well. That's what makes it stand out from some of its competition! One film you'll want to check out on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 is Tammy starring Melissa McCarthy!
The movie was first released in theaters back in July 2014. And now, we're lucky enough to get it streaming on Netflix. McCarthy takes on the role of Tammy, a burger-joint waitress who's going through a very rough day. She's fed up and decides to get away, and her only option comes in the form of her grandmother, Pearl. What sort of adventure will these two go on? Check out the full description of the film below:
For Tammy (Melissa McCarthy), a burger-joint waitress, a bad day keeps getting worse. She wrecks her car, loses her job and finds her husband in a compromising position with their neighbor. It's time for Tammy to hit the road, but without money or transportation, her options are limited. Her only choice is a road trip with her grandmother, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), who has a car, cash and an itch to see Niagara Falls. It's not the escape Tammy had in mind, but it may be what she needs.
Who stars in Tammy?
McCarthy has been a part of multiple projects that always manage to make us laugh! In 2011, the actress received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Molly Flynn in CBS sitcom Mike & Molly. in 2011 Some of her best known roles include Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls, Megan Price in The Bridesmaids, and most recently as Ursula in the live-action The Little Mermaid.
Her onscreen grandmother is played by Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon. You may recognize the talent from projects like musical comedy horror film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dead Man Walking, Pretty Baby, Little Women, and most recently Blue Beetle.
Tammy has a star-studded cast with many familiar faces and names including Kathy Bates as Lenore, Allison Janney as Deb, Dan Aykroyd as Don, Mark Duplass as Bobby Tillman, Gary Cole as Earl Tillman, Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh as Susanne, and more.
When it comes to measuring its success in the box office, the movie definitely was a success as it brought in $100.3 million compared to its $20 million budget. So the people definitely came out to watch it! However, the film did get negative reviews from critics. Even so, I think it's worth a watch on Netflix. Many times critics have negative reactions to productions, but the general audience likes it. So be sure to give Tammy a try!
Tammy begins streaming Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 on Netflix.
