Just a 50 minutes bus ride from Central, you can step into a laidback village type of life in Stanley Market.

You can explore the shops in the market and Stanley Plaza, which boasts a number of eateries. There are also a few restaurants along the seafront towards Murray House and the Pier, next to the Tin Hau temple.

There is also a small cha can teang called Si Yik, which serves toast and noodles with milk tea and is usually open till 1230 pm.

Check out the souvenir shops, as well as the 3-4 art galleries. The shops are open most days and, of course, are busier on the weekends. Do watch out for cyclists who illegally cycle along the pathways between the shops - one of them actually rode into my wife, bruising her shoulder.

Access is easy, with minibus 40 from Jardine Bazaar in Causeway Bay and bus 6 from Central, among others.

Nothing special about this market with brand fakes of low quality. They all sell the same bags, watches and football t-shirts. Nice to go for a walk, but dint expect anything special. Istanbul’s Grand Bazar is 1000 times better.

Gravitated to this street more because it was brightly lit compared to those surrounding it. Not as many stores as it used to have pre-covid, and a lot of stores are quite repetitive. Not say very cheap items are available as well, there was a guy who tried to bargain me for 3 shirts at hkd320, which is still a lot for a basic cheap quality shirt. know what you want, and the quality that the price should have

besides that, we liked this 1 store near the temple street archway. there was an old lady selling keychains and 3d puzzles at a really cheap price (3 for hkd50). we bought 2 rounds, walked the entire street, and decided to come back to get even more souvenirs from her. she was so nice to even give us a discount. do visit her, she is so sweet

This is a feature street market in Mongkok located just north of Prince Edward West Road, around a 5 minute walk from both Prince Edward and the Mongkok East MTR Stations. The Mongkok Flower Market has dozens of shops and is worth seeing anytime of of the year. However, it is particularly interesting now during the Chinese New Year season.

At this time of year, the flower market is thriving with shops and added stalls filled with seasonal flowers, plants and decorations. You'll be able to see daffodils, orchids, chrysanthemums and holiday specials including Narcissus, peonies, kumquat (mandarin orange) plants, bamboo shoots, colourful willow stems and cherry blossom stems amongst others.

Do expect crowds when you plan to visit the Flower Market but especially during the Chinese New Year - to a point of being uncomfortable in the evenings and weekends. As such, consider midday weekday visits during CNY when things are more manageable and its easier to take pictures.

The area is full of vintage and antique shops. Nice collection of exquisite items such as rare pottery, mammoth tusk engravings, and rare bonsai, among others. Do also drop by to Upper Lascar Row Antique Street Market that has a lot of vintage shops and souvenirs.

An interesting walk through a bustling, colourful market made up of many different sections- I found the ‘wet market’ and goldfish market interesting but I don’t like seeing shops with puppies and kittens in crates. Different cultures have different expectations I guess.

So many wonderful varieties of tropical and cold water fish. Very crowded though and too expensive to send back to NZ. Certainly an awesome experience

…especially if you don’t venture off HK Island very often. In that the title of this ‘attraction’ is Tai Po Street, I suppose it goes for anything found in and around this area, which is great because it’s worth exploring to find lots of sights and products that you may not find elsewhere. Very local, very Chinese to Western sensibilities, but still very much a part of HK life.

Dirt cheap prices on almost all electronics. Refurbished phones are quite popular here. Be wary of some counterfeit stuff though.

I had elders that had caged birds, so the idea of a place where people took their birds for a walk was always amusing to me. This place isn’t big, but is right next to the flower market so it’s easy to combine. Not really worth visiting on it’s own, but definitely made for some interesting pics and conversations.

The most densely populated place in the world. This market brings together both extremes of social living. A must go see. The people are very friendly and it's an incredible experience to witness how people work and live. The Chinese food is a little challenging so I'd avoid trying something you have not had or a place you have not eaten at before.

Lots of singers, dancers and performers and its very vibrant. Mostly singers though belting out the odd Cantopop track and a few singing in Mandarin. Its worth popping by to see whats going on. It can get very busy.
