    PROS
    * Special memorial honoring those who have fallen to defend Greece
    * Solemn place deserving of piety and respect
    * It is in front of the Hellenic Parliament Building at Syntagma Square

    CONS
    One cannot approach close to it

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... when i came to Syntagma Square to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

    I also wanted to honor the fallen heroes, but the memorial is against the wall, and no visitor was allowed to approach, so I saw it from the broad plaza, but from afar.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It was free

    WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    If I am in Athens again, I would come here again

    ADVICE
    An important piece of Greek history and culture, so you should come and give honor to their fallen heroes.

    PROS
    * Prominent place in the city center
    * Public square
    * Adjacent to and part of the Hellenic Parliament grounds

    CONS
    Nothing dramatic and touristic in and of itself

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... when I came to see the Changing of the Guards ceremony and then we walked down to here

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It is free

    WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    I would be here when I went to see the ceremony again

    ADVICE
    You only need a few minutes here, after seeing the Hellenic Parliament Building, the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Changing of the Guards ceremony.

    Pretty interesting. They wear traditional Greek uniforms. Get there early and middle area to get the best look. They do the change on the hour, every hour with a special one on Sunday

    This is a special holy place in Athens. Although the building looks older, it is actually from the 19th Century, and as far as Greek church architecture goes, it's fairly recent. The interior is a mystical space filled with decorative objects and richly ornamented icons. It is a great place to contemplate and relax during a busy trip to Athens--and experience how the Greek Orthodox practice their faith.

    PROS
    * This is the house of Parliament and government building for Greece
    * Former royal palace
    * Impressive structure
    * Location of the Tomb of Unknown Soldier and the Changing of the Guard ceremony

    CONS
    The structure is off- limits to visitors and tourists

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... because seeing the Changing of the Guard ceremony was the #2 item on my list of two things that i wanted to do during my long weekend in Athens, and it takes place in front of the building.

    No other official activity was happening at this building. It almost seemed like a facade- something not real.

    However, there was a staged Greek folk dance performance in authentic costumes- we enjoyed that and watched that and I took many photos 📷 that I posted here. I also participated in doing the dancing with these performers, but alas, I will not post those photos here.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It is free to see it

    WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    If I were in Athens again, i would go to see the Changing of the guard again

    ADVICE
    You can come and see the building anytime. It is part of a comprehensive sightseeing tour of Athens.

    I enjoy old coins. I love Greek history. This is the perfect combination. My wife and I took our time and went from exhibit to exhibit taking photos of our favorite coins. I think my wife photographed the whole collection ---or close to it.

    Very modern and very clean, and also safe. Very busy as the Metro lines converge here. You will find the station under the Square and it occupies a large area. Good place to buy tickets.

    This church looks like time forgot about it, and the city just kept on building all around! While the church is from the Byzantine period, it has icons spanning hundreds of years. Take a break from shopping, light a candle and walk in.

    A nice theater that reminds you the old era of Athens so it’s really worth while to watch a theatrical show there

    On the sidewalk, right outside the entrance to my hotel, stands a tiny church. Really tiny. It probably measures not more than 15 square meters. It is the Church of Agia Dynami (Church of Holy Power) and it dates back over 400 years. The solid stones are bound to last yet another 400 years.

    The shop is ideally located right in the center of Athens, within walking distance of major points of interest, including Syntagma. It has all the designer boutiques you can think of from jewelry to shoes. As can be expected, it is pricey.

    This approximately 1,000 year old church has a rather plain exterior, but its notable points are the octagon dome which is not commonly used in Greek architecture, and the free standing bell tower.

    No photos are allowed inside.
