I want to believe that that domain name was chosen as a tribute to Final Fantasy VI.

I still use this site as a resource for making quick and dirty personal arrangements for my wife and I to play.

I basically had this entire site on my old ass hard drive :D

This used to be my main hangout spot in 1997, and I was in the IRC room all the time. My visits dropped off for the same reason as yours.

I do a lot of video game music recreations for my YouTube channel, and I will use this site to learn how to play the music. Basically, I download the midi, and then GarageBand will let me see my choice of either the sheet music or the piano roll, so that I can see what notes I have to play instead of doing it all by ear. I still do some parts by ear, but the bits in the background that you can't hear too well will be learned manually.

And I'll admit it; I sometimes rip the drum loop straight out of the midi, because I'm absolutely horrible at drums / coming up with drum loops.

a friend told me he does the same thing if he wanted to remix a track, but didn't have the instrumental track, he'd find a midi to use the notes

Ah, I didn't know GarageBand did that for MIDIs. Cool beans.

Garage band can record both audio and sequenced (midi) signals. Have you ever played around on it with a midi keyboard, or used any of their synths?

u/V2Blast avatar

Nope, I've done almost nothing with GarageBand. I've only played around with it once or twice.

the best thing about this site, were the forums, some random MIDI composers would create RPG medleys out of the posters' requests.

I remember they picked a few of my requests, i was so fucking happy, i have to dig them up

This is probably my favourite feature of the site: http://www.vgmusic.com/cgi/random.cgi?random_button=Random+Song

I got the theme of the Unicorn's Cave dungeon from Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

I used to love this site to bits when I was still on 56k.

I remember joining this site in late 2001 looking for Earthbound music. What I found was MIDIs instead but the quality of the sequences were pretty decent and the community was, and still is, pretty cool.

I don't download MIDIs as often as I used to (did it a lot when I had a 1gb hd) but I still check out the archive for sequences to put in my MUGEN folder. I have so many stages that need music!

How do I get a full ZIP of their entire archive?

Is this site safe?
