Charles Dickens was born in 1812 near Portsmouth where his father was a clerk in the navy pay office. The family moved to London in 1823, but their fortunes were severely impaired. Dickens was sent to work in a blacking-warehouse when his father was imprisoned for debt. Both experiences deeply affected the future novelist. In 1833 he began contributing stories to newspapers and magazines, and in 1836 started the serial publication of Pickwick Papers. Thereafter, Dickens published his major novels over the course of the next twenty years, from Nicholas Nickleby to Little Dorrit. He also edited the journals Household Words and All the Year Round. Dickens died in June 1870.

Não dei 5 estrelas por ser um livro muito pequeno e fino (tem outras edições melhores com mais histórias e capa dura, pretendo adquirir) e pela capa ter vindo diferente da anunciada.

Uma das histórias de Natal mais conhecidas e amplamente representada em adaptações para filmes e desenhos.
O Sr. Scrooge é ranzinza, velho, pão duro e até cruel. Detesta o Natal e é bastante egoísta. Parece só se importar com o lucro e nada mais.
Durante a noite da véspera do Natal é visitado pelo fantasma do seu falecido ex sócio Marley e por 3 espíritos q tem a intenção de lhe ajudar ensinando uma lição. O Fantasma dos Natais Passados, O Fantasma do Natal Presente e o Fantasma dos Natais Futuros.
No passado o velho Scrooge viaja e revê sua infância e sua irmã e também a mulher que amou e a vida que poderia ter tido com ela. No presente vê a felicidade que abdica ao renegar o Natal e o carinho que algumas pessoas mesmo sem motivo lhe tem, também a vida dura que seu empregado explorado leva com um filho doente mas tendo uma família amorosa.
No futuro encontra a morte, a sua morte e a maneira que ela deixará mais alívio e alegria do que tristeza aos outros.
Ao acordar é um novo homem. Aprende a lição e se transforma completamente em uma pessoa feliz, calorosa, empatica e generosa.
O livro é curto mas é um clássico que VOCÊ PRECISA ler! É necessário!
Dos reflexos da Revolução Industrial até o atual consumismo e solidão egoísta que afasta as pessoas umas das outras e da verdadeira solidariedade e comunhão é um conto ainda atual. Escrito numa linguagem fácil, engraçado as vezes, impactante em outras.
Pense que nunca é tarde para mudar e o Natal tem a ver com sentimentos bons!
