Synopsis

Following the Civil War, Apache chief Cochise goes on the warpath, vowing to kill every white man in Arizona. The cavalry unit at Fort Apache Wells under the unpopular command of Captain Bruce Coburn lead local homesteaders to the fort in preparation for an attack, but the men are inadequately armed. Consequently, Coburn takes some of his men, including two young homesteader brothers, Doug and Mike Malone, on a dangerous mission to meet a consignment of 40 new repeating rifles that is on its way. Along the way they fall into an ambush, and Mike is among those killed, while Doug stands paralyzed with fear. Coburn reaches his destination, but his treacherous corporal, Bodine, convinces the survivors to steal the rifles and sell them to Cochise. Facing court-martial, Coburn sets out to recover the rifles and receives unexpected aid from young Doug, who is anxious to redeem himself. Together they outwit the Apaches and return the rifles to the fort. In the climactic battle, Cochise's attack is repelled, Bodine is killed, and Doug regains his self-respect. Finally, Coburn is reunited with his sweetheart, Doug's sister Ellen.
