This was our first ever visit to Chaps Pit Beef. During our planning for a weekend get-a-way to Baltimore, we learned that pit beef was a local institution. As we dropped in off the highway, my wife was concerned by the economic distress visible all around Chaps. I assured her would be fine, and we pulled in for lunch. Each of us ordered a medium pit beef with fries. I grabbed a bbq container, a horseradish sauce container, pickles and onions. My first bite was plain pit beef with no condiments. The beef burst with amazing beefiness. The sandwich was made world class by adding onions and horseradish sauce. My wife preferred her pit beef with bbq sauce and pickles. Both graded it as a top five sandwich of all times. The fries were just ok.

Pork ribs very fatty. Not much edible meat. Mac and cheese dry and bland. Big John sandwich dry and too salty. Fries were too greasy and had been setting too long before served Prices are too high for mediocre food. Outside tables needed to be cleaned

Get there early so you can get a seat inside especially on a day like today when it was in the 30’s

This is an institution - a true local place - the food is good especially the beef sandwich - the bbq sandwich is also very good

The location is, to be generous, non traditional - but let not your heart be troubled - it’s well worth the visit

My wife and I had seen this place on Triple D a couple of times. We try to hit theses places when we are in the area. This trip we were in Baltimore for a baseball game and decided to try it. Thanks to the knowledge of a family member we knew exactly what to get. Medium rare beef sandwiches, gravy fries and a mess of tiger sauce. I will say that the portions were very good. What got me was how little flavor there was in the plain meat. I was expecting much more of a smoky, grilled taste. I'm not saying it wasn't still good, just not what my minds eye had pictured after seeing Guy and Duff near wet themselves over it. What really made it was the tiger sauce. If there is a next time, I think I'd like onions as well. Overall a very good trip and another Triple D joint checked off.
