A long and challenging season is now over. SV Werder went through several different phases throughout the campaign. Having been given a few days to reflect, head coach Ole Werner looks back at the last 34 games in his end-of-season interview. The 36-year-old talks about the challenges of pre-season, his personal highlights and his expectations for next year.

The 2023/24 season has officially come to an end for SV Werder Bremen after they triumphed 9-4 in a friendly against Blumenthaler SV. Just like in the last friendly, the Green-Whites’ side featured a mix of first-team players and young talents.

He knew – as we all did – that it was coming, but there was still a stream of tears on the face of Christian Groß after his final competitive appearance for SV Werder Bremen. As he and his family walked across the pitch at the wohninvest WESERSTADION following that win against Bochum, the emotion around the ground was clear for all to see.

SV Werder Bremen ran out as winners in their penultimate friendly of the season after beating sixth-division side BV Garrel 8-0 in front of 3,100 spectators at the Goldschmaus-Stadion. Ole Werner opted to put out an XI comprised mainly of first team players to compete in the first half, after which a number of U19s were given their chance to shine for the Green-Whites.

While the majority of the Werder players can now deservedly put their feet up after coming to the end of a hard-fought campaign, four of the boys have been called up for their respective national teams’ provisional squads ahead of EURO 2024.
