Kamlager-Dove Votes to Support International Allies, Defend Global Democracy

April 20, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) voted for the $95 billion foreign aid supplemental package to support Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific and deliver desperately needed humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, Ukraine, and refugees suffering from conflict around the world.

“As wars intensify and tensions escalate across the globe, the world is looking to the United States to stand by our international allies, de-escalate conflict, and defend democracy at home and abroad,” said Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove. “While Russia, Iran, and China conspire to violate the very sovereignty of our allies, it is vital to stand up for democracies across the globe. After months of Republican obstruction, I am relieved to finally vote for these supplemental bills that will reaffirm U.S. leadership on the world stage by delivering aid to our allies in Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific and providing critical humanitarian assistance to innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of these conflicts.

Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove continued, "Rather than addressing the global challenges we face and providing relief to those suffering across the world, Republicans wasted valuable time by ousting their own speaker and delaying funding our government. This blatant lack of empathy, compassion, and understanding has led to thousands of deaths in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Haiti, the Sahel, Armenia, and other zones of humanitarian crisis who waited for critical humanitarian aid that is coming far too late. The $5.7 billion in funding for international disaster assistance and the $3.5 billion for migration and refugee assistance will save lives. Regions and crises that have been starved of funds will finally get an influx of much needed resources. The human cost of Republican inaction is real, and it is significant as are the benefits that this supplemental funding will—at long last—bring.”
