After a breakout 2022 season, Andrew Thomas has received a record-breaking contract extension from the New York Giants.

The team officially announced Thomas signed the multiyear extension Wednesday.

Thomas' agent, John Thornton, told ESPN's Adam Schefter the deal is worth $117.5 million over five years and includes an offensive line record $67 million in fully guaranteed money.

The Giants already had Thomas under contract through the 2024 season after picking up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract earlier this offseason.

Selected with the No. 4 pick in the 2020 draft, Thomas looked like a bust as a rookie. His first season was, by his own admission, "embarrassing."

"You want to play well," Thomas told The Athletic's Dan Duggan in November about his first-year struggles. "You don't want to put bad tape on film. It's not a good feeling."

Thomas got significantly better in his second season. He was ranked as the 80th-best player in the NFL during the 2021 campaign by Pro Football Focus' Sam Monson after allowing just 18 pressures in 517 pass-blocking snaps.

The 2022 season was a revelation for Thomas. He finished 10th among all offensive tackles in ESPN's pass-block win rate (93 percent).

In a survey of coaches, scouts, executives and players conducted by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Thomas came in as the seventh-best offensive tackle in the league.

His $23.5 million average annual salary ranks second among all left tackles. Laremy Tunsil of the Houston Texans is the only player ahead of him ($25 million per season). His $117.5 million in total value is only behind San Francisco 49ers star Trent Williams ($138.06 million).

In three seasons with the Giants, Thomas has appeared in 45 games. He's made 44 starts and was named to the All-Pro second team last season.
