Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion Is Most Coveted Film Of 2024: Trade Talk

According to several people in Bollywood, Kabir Khan's next starring Kartik Aaryan is being hailed as a film that could save 2024 at the box office. The true-life story is based on the life of India's first Paralympic gold medallist Murlikant Petkar.

Not Singham Again and certainly not the three more (groan!) Akshay Kumar starrers coming up in 2024 (Khel Khel Mein, Skyforce and Welcome to the Jungle), the most coveted film of the rest of 2024 is Kartik Aryan’s first true-life story Chandu Champion. Kartik Aaryan plays India's first Paralympic gold medallist, Murlikant Petkar, in the film.

Multiple sources confirm that Kartik has given his all, and then some more to this prestige project.

“He was so fully immersed in his part that on many occasions, director Kabir Khan had to pull him out of character,” a source very close to the project tells this writer, adding that the film’s satellite and OTT rights are now being negotiated.

“Two of the biggest OTT platforms have offered close to Rs 165-180 crores for the streaming rights of Chandu Champion. But they are not biting the bait. The producers first want to lock in all the theatre distribution circuits,” says the source.

Chandu Champion opens in movie theatres on June 14, opposite Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.

Says Bihar’s exhibitor Roshan Singh, “Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion is the only hope for 2024. The other big films, like Fighter and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan have either misfired or like Singham Again and Kalki 2898 AD have created minimal buzz so far. Kartik with Chandu Champion is currently the film industry’s saviour.”
