The thing I like most about San Luis Obispo is the variety it offers as far as businesses. It is relatively easy to get to the beach from this spot or to travel up to Paso Robles which has a popular mid-state fair in the summer. The weather is nice year-round and San Luis tends to get more rain than most places during the early months of the year. Overall it is a beautiful place to live or visit.
SLO is a beautiful area which, especially if you’re coming from a denser city, gives a breath of fresh air. Many people tell me that compared to where they’re from people are much more open and easygoing. It’s a great place!
It is a very pretty city with many activities and things to do. Downtown is always lively, there are many different parks, beaches, and hikes to go on. Its very family-oriented though there are a lot of college kids.
I have lived in San Luis Obispo County for most of my life and for the most part it is a great place to live. However, it Cater's to tourist and the college population. It is difficult to create an established stable life with the minimum hourly wage rate where it currently stands at $16.00 an hour. It is discouraging for the local residents who work the jobs that cater to the nonresidents. Even if you receive a degree and remain in the area the ratio is still disheartening.
It is a lively city, full of younger people at Cal Poly and older retired individuals. Nice city, but very expensive to live in.
Its a nice and relaxing college town with a lot of good restaurants and an incredible farmers market that happens every Thursday.
Great place to live, and cheap enough housing if you look. The only real bummer is gas is pretty expensive here since we are a few hours away from the other big cities. Easy drive over to beaches, and its only about an hour to visit Santa Barbara if that's your jam.
Make sure you read the tiny parking signs 10 feet above street level or it will cost you $45
Slo is sleezy for making paid parking non obvious then charging $45 for it. I will not go to down town slo again.

This town is full of life! The surrounding hikes and beaches offer endless fun and the downtown scene is great for going out with friends. The weekly Thursday evening Farmer's Market is a must!
The city has nice weather all year long and a friendly atmosphere. However, it is a small city so it can become boring quickly.
I love living in San Luis Obispo. Downtown is very fun for people over and under 21, the community is lovely, and there is great real estate.
I grew up in San Luis Obispo, and have seen it change quite dramatically in the last 35 years. I think it would be great if they offered more dog parks and community volunteers to make sure the streets are a bit more safe at night.
SLO is a great place to live if you can afford it. Weather is amazing! It feels very safe and had an overall chill and friendly atmosphere. Its great for families who enjoy the beach, parks and hiking. We have only a couple venues for kids in the area, a couple small farms, a small train museum, and a children’s museum. It’s great because we have a very small town atmosphere and enjoy independent shops and restaurants, however there are very few late night options. The arts and entertainment scene is great for a small town especially, but expect to pay a lot for any sort of night out. Housing is extremely expensive and can come times favor college students, food is very expensive and just about everything else. We do have Costco, Target, World Market and plenty of chain stores too so there is a nice blend. Drive thru restaurants are not allowed for environmental reasons. Overall amazing place to be, but expensive. Also jobs don’t pay very well here, unfortunately.
This isn't a small town. Between the undocumented, homeless, tourists, and part time residents the population is much greater than advertised. This place is more akin a crowded subdivision.
The beautiful green photos on google are massive tease. for 10 months a year this place is grey, brown, dusty, and incredibly hot. lack of rain and poor resource management means the state is still on fire going into winter. More and more the days are choked with interminable orange wildfire smoke that makes everything smell like burning grass long after the smoke has cleared.
Prices here are insane. As the saying goes "the billionaires are kicking out the millionaires." A mobile home in a bad neighborhood will run you well north of 100 grand USD and that's not mentioning the skyrocketing prices of utilities.
Overall people are leaving California and SLO is no exception. Beyond the facade dutifully maintained by the tourism board SLO, like much of the rest of the state, is rotting away.

This town is becoming more evil and repressive every week. I'm hoping I can get to an actual really nice and friendly place before I die. There's got to be somewhere It is Not beautiful it's dry and ugly black soot looms from most of the buildings that's years of air pollution. They build too many expensive houses attract outsiders and ignore people here that need homes. Hotels abound for tourists to use water , while we have the drought. And plants ant Trees are allowed to dry out and die. That's "happy"?? No one except the rich people are " happy" here No one !! The local govnt and the police are all corrupt. Homeless people are treated like they're all walking covid. Now they shove people out of sight to live in their cars at the jail. And those that don't even have a car,God help them in the future. Humans in general have become cold hearted but both Slo and Santa Barbara county have some of the worst
Don't come here stay where you are !!;

Great town with amazing views, beautiful beaches, kind people, and quaint Downtown. It is an amazing stop for those driving along the 101 or a simple place to live that still has close proximity to bigger cities. Definitely a perfect place to retire or for outdoorsy people.
I enjoy the ambiance of the town and the amazing places to hike and eat. Most people are very friendly here and it makes you feel welcome.
