Yaroslav Askarov makes appearance in Nashville Predators' loss to Carolina Hurricanes

Coming off a three-day Christmas break and the historic loss that preceded it, the Nashville Predators returned to the ice Wednesday night to face the Carolina Hurricanes at Bridgestone Arena.

The result was a 5-2 loss on a night Sebastian Aho recorded four points and the Hurricanes scored three power-play goals.

The Predators (19-16-0) recalled goalie Yaroslav Askarov from the Milwaukee Admirals before the game to fill in as Juuse Saros' backup while Kevin Lankinen is out sick.

He made his second NHL appearance and first in the regular season when he replaced Saros to start the third period. Saros was pulled after allowing five goals on 19 shots.

Because of the deficit, Askarov was pulled for an extra skater with more than five minutes remaining in regulation but later returned.

After Carolina took a 2-0 lead, the Predators pulled to within one twice before the game got away.

The Predators’ next game is Friday in Detroit.

Carolina (18-13-4) won for the first time in three games.
