Plasterhead Plot Synopsis:

Every town has a local legend. Not all of them are deadly. Headed to Miami to celebrate winter break, a group of four college students from New Jersey take a detour into the bowels of rural West Virginia. There, the unwitting friends uncover a grotesque legend that stains the fabric of Rolling Glen, a sleepy backwoods town: the legend of Ray Williams, a black truck driver from Maine, on his way to Texas to make a delivery, brutally beaten by a band of locals after stopping off in town for a drink, his body left for dead in an empty cornfield and never found. They learn of crooked sheriff Earl Taggart, who helped acquit the locals involved in the attack, and who still lords over the small village with an iron fist. Fifteen years later, whispers of the Williams incident still float through the tired walls and eaves of Rolling Glen. As the four friends quickly find out, some believe Williams still roams the woods on the outskirts of town, surviving on the slaughter of wildlife. Others claim to have seen Williams in person, a looming figure with a ghostly white visage, purportedly a makeshift cast to mask the scars and wounds left from the merciless assault. They have a name for Williams now: Plasterhead. Soon, the four friends find themselves holed up in an abandoned farmhouse, mired in a macabre web of terror. Sheriff Taggart will do anything to keep the truth buried: the truth that Plasterhead is frighteningly real. As these teens will soon learn, true evil has no face.

Plasterhead (2006) Review

Plasterhead (2007) is an independent American mystery horror thriller movie that is 94 minutes and was filmed in Blairstown, New Jersey, USA; Franklin, New York, USA and North Haledon, New Jersey, USA. First-time director, producer, and writer Kevin Higgins did not succeed in executing his script. The movie contains nudity, decent kills, gore, violence, minimal suspense, no jump scares, no thrills, and m**ders.

Plasterhead revolves around a few college students from New Jersey heading to Miami for their winter break vacation. They decided to detour from traffic and took the back roads in rural West Virginia - Cliche? Yes, we have seen this in so many other movies. The college friends saw an abandoned bag in an empty field and decided to pick it up. They saw that it contained medications, money and the name of the owner were also very visible, so they choose to do the right thing and return the bag to the rightful owner. Needless to say, because we all know what happens next, they did not find the owner and did not get the gas they so needed, but they obtained shelter for the night.

The four college students discover the legend of the town Rolling Glen and the legend of Ray Williams, who was a black truck driver from Maine that was brutally beaten by locals. Sheriff Earl Taggart (Gerard Adimando - Bologna & Lettuce (2013), Patrons (2014), Something About Ryan (2009)) did not charge anyone for the beating of Ray. It is still believed fifteen years later that Ray/Plasterhead (Brian Dixon) has survived the attack and roams the area for his meals wearing a plaster mask to cover his deformed face.

Plasterhead is not one of the best horror movies out there, but it is not bad to the point where it is unwatchable either. The pacing of the film during the opening scenes was good, but then the director got lazy by showing us way too long scenes of chit chats. I gave this film a four because the acting was believable, kills were decent, and cinematography was not bad. The storyline was a huge cliche and did not do anything new to wow the audience.
