Aaron Carter That's How I Bet Shaq story

Fifteen years ago, Aaron Carter graced us with the classic track, “That’s How I Beat Shaq,” and followed it up with a genius music video.

But up until now it’s been a mystery how the 13-year-old managed to snag one of the world’s biggest basketball stars to appear in the video.

At the launch of his new children’s book, Little Shaq, Shaq revealed to EW that Carter actually recorded the song at his house – a few years after brother Nick Carter and the Backstreet Boys worked on their album there, too.

“I was in my office and he said, ‘You gotta listen to this,'” Shaq told EW. “And I was like, ‘It’s cute.'”

After that, Shaq didn’t need much persuading to get involved with the music video. “I said, ‘Yeah, put it out, let’s just have fun with it. And then we shot the video and it was awesome.”

“That’s How I Beat Shaq” was a single off Carter’s second album, Aaron’s Party (Come Get It). The album peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard chart, and the song became one of Carter’s most popular tunes.

“When he did ‘That’s How I Beat Shaq’ I knew it was gonna be a hit,” Shaq said. “It’s not a hit now. If you listen to it now, it’s terrible.”

We beg to differ.
