Original Metro 2033 on Steam.

Discussion

I was honestly saddened to have finally realized the original 2033 was no longer purchasable on steam. Thankfully I own it, however it sucks knowing it'll be harder for new fan's to the series to be able to get their hands on the original 2033. Especially all the hard work that went into it. The combat was differen't and so was pacing, of course some people will see the Redux as better, but some people prefer the original. I hope perhaps some dev will see this or someone will be able to reach out and convince some higherup to put it back on the steam store.

Reminder for those that didn't play: the Redux wasn't just a graphical face lift, it changed combat, mission pacing and removed things such as cinematic out of body cutscenes and so forth.

OG 2033 was my favorite followed by LL redux. So glad i got all the versions!

Edit: I think you can still get keys for the OG games on the net. I could check if you guys wants em.

Glad to see someone else who feels that way, and I hope you are right about the key thing :)

I find keys on different sites while looking and they are not that expensive.

The site is like ebay for games but it only links other stores that are safe, Just check reviews for the store. Also i notice you can buy a bundle and i guess it is both non redux games from 2 of the stores. Not 100% sure tho.

I never played the original but i wish to do so, the redux i played but scared the shit out of me and a few years late ri played Redux And Last Light and red the books aswell (i just started 2035) its such a fascinating universe knowing that in Exodus the rest of the world is still fighting and theyre just hiding not to get nuked again ( i played a little bit of Exodus untill the Radio Jamming Part.)

The original has such a fantastic atmosphere, almost everyone will agree its the most immersive of all :) I hope you can get your hands on it!

I got mine by specifically searching for it on Amazon. I think they should've left some of the things as they were in the original. I'm glad they changed the aesthetics, but I wish they kept the superior AI, pistol-only slot on ranger (it's perfectly realistic to have two medium-sized firearms and a pistol on you), and the armors/outfits. I like that they've brought some of that back in Exodus (from what I've read). Oh, and the shambler bayonet is nice too. Having to manually switch to a knife was weird at first, but I've since played STALKER, so I'm used to it now.

Aside from aesthetics, my only issue with it is that I feel like the mouse sensitivity is off even when I customize it in the settings. Any suggestions?

A lot of NPCs looked worse IIRC when it came to the redux.

Subjective, but perhaps. Some of the soldiers (particularly Reds) may have looked more realistic in the original. The mutants, though, I'm glad those were changed. I also prefer how Miller looked and Artyom sounded in redux. Artyom's original voice actor sounded sophisticated and philosophical and nicely melancholic, but the new one sounded closer to Artyom's age in my opinion. And I like that Miller looks (to me) more mature in the redux. If only I could have what I liked about each in one game.

I watched it just now. Again, subjective, but both have their strengths in terms of graphics I think. In some places, the redux looks too crisp to me. In others, the original does. So, any suggestion about anomalous mouse sensitivity?

Ngl, the playermodels are more detailed in Last light, but I wish they would have kept the realistic aesthetic in 2033. The new fourth reich models are an example of what I hate, they look so goofy in last light/redux art style. Anyways yeah! Both have good things, but I love how robust the gameplay was in 2033, having to manually switch items instead of it being a typical FPS gunplay.

My biggest issue is I feel they are erasing their own hard work. The devs put so much love into the original 2033, and I think people should forever be able to experiance it.

Yeah, I don't get why they couldn't just leave the original on Steam alongside the redux. It would be more profitable, no? I mean, there's BioShock (1, 2) and there's BioShock remastered, and both are in the Steam store.
