JC de Vera’s remarkable journey as an in-demand Kapamilya leading man

Possessing these striking physical features, it’s definitely quite easy for JC de Vera to win our hearts. However, it’s his remarkable acting skills and versatility that make us admire him even more, which he’s able to showcase in his teleserye and movie stints through the years. An epitome of a well-rounded leading man, right?

As we’re about to see him take on a new role in one of the much-awaited first-ever teleserye collaborations between ABS-CBN and TV5, Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin, let’s revisit some of his notable performances in ABS-CBN programs that he starred in over the past years via this Kapamilya Spotlight feature!

His showbiz career might have started in 2003 as one of the casts of a youth-oriented program of another network, but it was only in 2013 when he became a certified Kapamilya. Upon his transfer, he made his first-ever appearance in the first anniversary episode of the weekly sitcom Toda Max as a special guest.

Not long after, he was tapped to play Max Gonzales, the unfaithful boyfriend of Maja Salvador’s character Nicole in the controversial series The Legal Wife. It was also in 2014 when he was paired with Meg Imperial in the afternoon romance drama Moon Of Desire,  wherein he played the role of Dr. Jeff Bustamante, a plastic surgeon who treated and eventually fell in love with her character Ayla.

The year 2015 was indeed a busy one for JC as he appeared in four ABS-CBN programs. First was his Maalaala Mo Kaya debut, in which he impressed us with his performance as Andrew, a man who figured in an illicit affair with his college sweetheart Bea (Shaina Magdayao) in its “E-mail” episode. He also scored his first gig in Ipaglaban Mo through the “Pusong Mapanlinlang” episode, compelling us with his portrayal of a man who fell in love with two women. He then became a mainstay in the now-defunct comedy program Banana Sundae and had a special participation in the long-running action series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as Jarred Santos.

In 2016, he headlined Wansapanataym Presents “Just Got Laki as the titular character Michael, as well as two episodes of MMK. First was the “Pictures” episode, which narrated the inspiring story of named Catie Lucas, or more popular known as “Courageous Catie”, who succumbed to juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia at the age of 3. This served as his reunion project with Shaina, as they took on the roles of the little girl’s parents Jayjay and Feliz. It was succeeded by the “Golden Boy” episode, wherein he touched hearts anew with his portrayal of Josef de Guzman, a highly successful man whose life fell apart after being diagnosed with psoriasis.

JC once again teamed up with Shaina in the afternoon soap opera The Better Half in 2018, playing the role of her character’s love interest Rafael Cabrera. He starred in another MMK episode titled “Baso”, in which he got to work with the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano as they told the heartwarming story of a man named Jayson and his foster mom Guily.

He went on to become the third-wheel in the Piolo Pascual-Arci Muñoz pairing in the 2018 primetime series Since I Found You, wherein he played the role of the stern and antagonistic Arnaldo. He then lent his acting chops anew in another episode of Ipaglaban Mo titled “Abogada,” a man who fell in love to two women that ensued to a legal battle.

In 2019, he was cast as Ethan del Fierro in the action-drama series The General’s Daughter, alongside seasoned actors Angel Locsin, Ryza Cenon, and Paulo Avelino. The following year, he had a brief yet significant gig in the family series Pamilya Ko as Nathan Rubiñol, a university professor who had an illicit affair with his student Peachy, played by Maris Racal.

Amidst the raging pandemic between 2020 and 2022, JC was able to work on La Vida Lena, his sixth primetime series under ABS-CBN. He portrayed Adrian Narciso, one of the charming love interests of the titular character enthrallingly played by seasoned actress Erich Gonzales.

He was pretty prolific during that period despite the situation as he got to star in the “Paru-paro” episode of MMK in 2021 alongside Christian Bables, which chronicled the touching story of LGBTQIA+ couple Jay and Iron. The following year, he appeared in the iWantTFC series “The Goodbye Girl,” then played the role of supporting character Andrew Marcelo in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama Flower of Evil.

And this 2023, JC is about to captivate us anew through his stint as Philip Salazar in the upcoming series Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin. Is he going to be the protagonist or the antagonist? Well, that’s for us to find out, so you better not miss an episode once it premieres this coming July 25!
