Richard Groves, born April 23, 1968, is an English actor best known for his role as Garry Hobbs in EastEnders from 2000 until 2009.
Prior to his appearance in EastEnders, he played in The Bill spin-off series Burnside. He received his education at The Poor School in London. Groves proposed to fiancée and EastEnders co-star Hannah Waterman, who portrayed Laura Beale, in 2005.
On September 2, 2006, the couple married in a Dartmoor country church. Groves and Waterman announced their divorce in January 2010 after 312 years of marriage. He is a big fan of Leyton Orient.
When questioned by Tony Livesey on Five Live in October 2010, Groves mentioned his love of gardening programmes on television and took part in a gardening trivia competition.
On 16 June 2000, he starred in London’s Burning Series 12, Episode 15 as Brett, a young man who gets imprisoned in a room with a bomb at a disused swimming pool.
Groves received £1600 for his school after appearing on BBC’s School’s Out on July 28, 2007. In the show, he disclosed that his nickname at school was ‘The Rickster,’ a moniker he is still known by close relatives and friends.
He was matched with professional dancer Erin Boag in the seventh series of Strictly Come Dancing. They were eliminated in week ten. He and his family appeared in All-Star Family Fortunes’ sixth season.
Groves made an appearance on The Weakest Link Eastenders Special on February 18, 2010. He was the second contestant to be eliminated. Ricky appeared in the TV show Celebrity Coach Trip with pal Alex Ferns.
In 2011, he appeared in one episode of Holby City, which aired on July 12, 2011. He appeared on the Celebrity MasterChef 2011 season. Also appeared in the 2014 ITV series Splash.
He appears on the ITV show Who’s Doing the Dishes? in 2016.
