SIR: Gyles Brandreth’s mention of the sometime Warden of All Souls, John Sparrow, brought back an anecdote told me by a friend, an Oxford student in the ’60s, during Sparrow’s tenure.
The Warden had indulged in one of his public outbursts of misogyny, outraging – as he had intended – a considerable proportion of the city’s undergraduates.
