Royal Northern Sinfonia Orchestra In Concert At Selby Abbey

Selby Abbey will host ‘Royal Northern Sinfonia by Candlelight’ on Wednesday 6th December at 7.30pm.

The chamber orchestra was founded in 1958, quickly establishing itself in its aims to make classical music accessible and inclusive in the North of England. Its home is the stunningly impressive ‘The Glasshouse’ on the south bank of the River Tyne. This year the Royal Northern Sinfonia headlined the first weekend long BBC Proms Festival to take place outside London.

Under the direction of Maria Wloszczowska and co-leader Kyra Humphreys, the programme at Selby Abbey is designed to “warm from the inside out”. Music from the 17th century will include works from Telemann and J.S. Bach while ground-breaking modern works will include the likes of Whitacre’s ‘Sleep’.

Tickets - £18 for adults and £5.00 for 17s and under - are available in advance from the glasshouseicm.org and will also be available on the door on the night.

A full programme of all events and services at Selby Abbey over the Advent and Christmas season can be viewed on the Abbey website www.selbyabbey.org.uk
