Brian: msmike's identification as a Vetterli-Vitali is incorrect.

You have a Model 1891/24 Carbine which is the Model 1891 Carcano Rifle modified in 1924 with the barrel shortened to 18 inches, but retaining the longer rear sight graduated to 2000 meters.

This rifle was originally made in 1896 and is chambered for the 6.5 X 52 mm Carcano cartridge.

Retail value for a gun in the condition shown would range from $150 to $275 depending on mechanical and bore.

That is some great information. I am wondering if you can point me in the direction of a good resource?

I am looking to find out how you came about knowing the model is a Model 1891/24 and what do the markings on the rifle represent. (Torre Annuziata, UV 357, and 1896).

Are there other marking I should look for?

The only thing I know about the rifle is the firing pin was taken out of it years ago. The barrel actually looks really good.

your local gunsmith can get you a new or replacement firing pin and fit it to your rifle. ammo is made to day. they are a good dear rifle.

brifie: Torre Annunziata was a government arsenal near Naples where your rifle was made in 1896 (date of manufacture). "UV357" is likely the serial number.

I identified your rifle (Carbine) based on the descriptions contained in "Standard Catalog of Military Firearms", 5th Edition, by Phillip Peterson and "Military Small Arms of the 20th Century", 5th Edition, by Ivan Hogg and John Weeks.

A firing pin and spring is available from: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/search#query=%20carcano%20firing%20pin

I do not know of a Italian Military Rifle or Carcano specific reference publications.
