Angelyne the Billboard Queen is back on giant billboard in West Hollywood located above My 12 Step Store at 8730 Santa Monica Boulevard. The LA pink goddess is promoting her sophomore album “Driven to Fantasy” scheduled to be re-released on May 3rd.
“Driven to Fantasy” will be available once more on Angelyne Pink vinyl, in stores and online, in partnership with Dark Entries Records as part of the label’s 15th anniversary. There will also be a record release party on Saturday May 4th at the Pleasure Chest in West Hollywood from 5-7pm. Angelyne will be in person signing records and taking pictures for purchase.
This will be the first time that this cult record will be in print since its original release, on Hot Pink vinyl with a bonus 2-sided poster featuring lyrics.

Angelyne, born Ronia Tamar Goldberg on October 2, 1950, has long been a fixture in the cultural landscape of Los Angeles known for being famous for being famous, but she is more than just a billboard queen or a rock star; she’s a movie star, a visual artist, a painter and even a political candidate.
Her rise to fame in 1984 was marked by the appearance of hot pink billboards bearing only her name, “Angelyne,” strategically placed across Los Angeles, California. These provocative billboards, featuring suggestive poses, quickly captured the attention of local media outlets, thrusting Angelyne into the spotlight and sparking a flurry of offers for film roles, magazine interviews, and television appearances.
Central to Angelyne’s celebrity persona is her signature pink Corvette, a symbol synonymous with her identity. The iconic billboards featuring her likeness have become fixtures in popular culture, making cameo appearances in numerous movies and television series, including the opening credits of “Moonlighting” and atop buildings in films such as “Get Shorty,” where producer Harry Zim, portrayed by Gene Hackman, resides. Additionally, her distinct imagery has been playfully parodied in shows like “The Simpsons,” “Futurama,” and “BoJack Horseman.”
Throughout her career, Angelyne meticulously guarded her real name, age, and identity, keeping them shrouded in mystery until 2017, when these details were finally revealed to the public.
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Angelyne also dabbled in politics, running for Governor of California twice. Her bids for office coincided with the recall elections of Gray Davis in 2003 and Gavin Newsom in 2021.
Before her rise to fame, Angelyne immersed herself in the punk rock scene, joining the band Baby Blue in 1978 alongside her then-boyfriend. Despite performing in clubs across Los Angeles, the band never achieved commercial success. Angelyne transitioned to a solo career in 1982 with the release of her self-titled debut album, accompanied by the emergence of her iconic billboard campaign. Subsequent endeavors included her second album, “Driven to Fantasy,” released in 1986, and appearances in various films, including “Earth Girls Are Easy” (1988), “Dangerous Love” (1988), and “Homer and Eddie” (1989).
Angelyne has been spotted at Pavillions stealing grapes! 🙂 I know because there is an instagram account where people post having seen her. Met her at Gay Pride. The meeting was historical and hysterical!

I’ve talked to her more than a few times in Pavilions on Santa Monica Blvd, nice person too bad she lives in beverly hells. She has a serious theory about how someone can become “famous” by building up a certain “hype” around them and, she was thoughtful enough to spend some time with a few Cal State LA students talking about it for their final research paper in their diversity course. Some of Angelyne’s ideas about how people set themselves upon the path to fame can clearly be seen with many politicians who win elections without ANY substantive politics❗
Nothing makes me happier than an Angelyne sighting, and I will be buying a copy of her album.

She is part of our culture, here in SoCal. I’m not sure what she actually does as a career, but I used to love seeing her billboards on thr blvds, and explaining to my out of town friends who she was. I love spotting her around town. I hope a huge crowd shows up for her.
