Nancy Sinatra reposts tweet in response to rumored casting of Leonardo DiCaprio as her father Frank Sinatra and Jennifer Lawrence as his wife Ava Gardner

Famous Families 👨‍👩‍👦👯‍♂️

Ava Gardner is not Nancy’s mother, as my fantastic reading comprehension skills claimed she was in the original post title 🙃

(Thanks to the posters looking out for your local dyslexic girl 🥹❤️)

And she's 'only' 83. I expected her either to be dead or older.

u/Warmtimes avatar

I expected her to be younger! She's boomer icon. I expected her to born 1945 or after.

u/befuddled_humbug avatar

When you put it like that...My perception of time is all over the place tbh 😅

A lot of icons are people you looked up to. My dad fuckin loves Clint Eastwood and dude is in his 90s

We have people like Arnold and people like that who are icons to us but are not in our generation

And she’s the oldest of the three Sinatra children. I’m still surprised they Tina had control over the estate.

Why ask Leo when Ronan Farrow is right there………

listen, we could ALL be Frank Sinatra's son...

My dad wasn’t around so this is what I’m saying from now on lol

Have at it! You’d be in good company. Marilyn Monroe famously thought Clark Gable was her father and her father also wasn’t around. She didn’t stop saying that until the day she died.

It’s Scorsese. He didn’t even consider someone other than Leo. Or if the character is older he just casts De Niro

u/West-Custard-6008 avatar

To be fair he’s so old that he probably still uses a Rolodex and having just two cards in it makes life easier.

u/TSmotherfuckinA avatar

Or just use De Niro for younger characters too lol.

Ronan Farrow has the best dad jokes b/c they're literally about his dad and "dad".

I’ve come to believe Ronan really is Woody’s son, if for no other reason then he very publicly despises his father. If my dad groomed my little sister, I’d feel the same way. Anything that I could use to separate myself from him, including genetics, would be used and loudly discussed at length. He’s even joked about being disappointed with his paternity test results, implying it is definitely Woody.

This is so true and I’m surprised I don’t see it commented more often.

If Ronan had any evidence he was Sinatra’s son he would share it outright, instead of making coy wishful jokes about the resemblance. He (rightfully) loathes Woody Allen.

In actuality he is a carbon copy of Mia’s father John Farrow. Yes, Mia married a man who looked a lot like her dad.

Yep. He looks like his mom, that’s all.

If my dad was Frank Sinatra I might be like this too

You know Leo if you’re really trying to play old blue eyes it might actually require losing some weight finally to fit the role.

losing some weight finally

Can we go like, ONE day, without shaming someone's body?

It’s absolutely disgusting.

He’s not fat and he’s actually currently rather thin.

How is this body shaming? He’s an actor and if he’s gonna play a thin man in a biopic, doesn’t he need to try and look like his character as much as possible?

I think the additions of “actually” and “finally” are what take it from an observation about fitting into character to a judgment about weight.

"If he is to play Sinatra, he'd likely need to lose some weight for the role."

"Actually, to play Sinatra, he'd finally have to lose weight."

See the difference?

Oftentimes it's not what is being said, but rather how it's being said.

I would agree with you if not for the “finally” part. He’s not overdue to lose weight. He’s not a firefighter. He’s not a father who has a responsibility to his kids.

His life is unimaginably cool. If he CBF losing weight that’s his business same as yours and mine.

Everyone would jump on someone saying a female actor should lose weight for a role. Hypocrites.

Are we really gonna go to bat for creepy ass Leonardo DiCaprio?? Pick your battles.

If your morals only apply when discussing people you like, you don't have morals.

men who have a similar body to leo will still see what’s being said and might feel some type of way. it’s not about protecting that creep, it’s about considering the people who might be dealing with body image issues.

It's about not bodyshaming at all. You want to take out leo for being a creep? Talk about that. No need to bring in his body because other people who did nothing wrong get dragged into that insult as well.

Just don't bodyshame, full stop.

Yeah, he likes young women, but all of them are adults and not a single one has ever had anything bad to say about him. And for all the years in the industry, no one has ever said a single bad thing about the dude. Let it go.

edit: and they instantly blocked me, lol What's the point of discussion forum if you get upset if someone disagrees with you?

Oh no, a man that likes young attractive women, call the governor!

I feel like people have the image of Leo from 4/5 ago, when he had to put on weight to do Don't Look Up, currently he's very thin, he doesn't need to lose any weight, he's filming the PTA film, he always lose a lot of weight when starting a new project

Why “finally”? What is the point of this comment?

Good thing his bank roll is loooooooong and his genetics top notch. He will be just fine getting out of his winter coat. Nothing like a personal chef and trainer to snap you up, noice and toit

Leo is not overweight or big, at all. He’s just slightly out of shape when he’s not filming and he has “alcoholic’s bloat”.

Is he actually an alcoholic though? I know it's not the point. I agree, don't think he's overweight. Just wondering about the alcoholic part.

u/Due-Sand-3775 avatar

I never heard anything about him being an alcoholic, no one ever said anything about it, I think people are confusing him with Brad Pitt who is publicly known as an alcoholic

Sinatra finally got a little thicker later on

He’s an experienced actor. I’m pretty sure he knows what to do to fit a role 🙄

Tf?

I don't see Leo playing him. I feel like Sinatra has this youthful look in his eyes that Leo just doesn't have.

I wonder what age Sinatra is supposed to be in the movie?

Can we stop casting the same people over and over again? I'm bored.

Yeah, I could see 2000 Leo being a young Sinatra but I couldn’t imagine him doing it now

u/Britneyfan123 avatar

I can’t see 2000 Leo as Sinatra either

"Can we stop casting the same people over and over again? I'm bored."

Totally agree! I am SO bored of seeing the same people in everything! It really takes me out of the story a lot of the time too when you're so familiar with everyone youre seeing that after a while it gets harder to see them as new characters for me, plus too many bland nepo babies clogging up hollywood.

I read an article about how Skins UK had an open casting call and look at all the new faces and actual talent that came out of that show, thats the way to do it, someone needs to take a risk once in a while it's all getting so circular and stale.

Seconding this. Nicole Kidman has been in everything recently, and her immobile, postsurgical face was really not appropriate for the character of Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos. I will die on this hill.

I was so surprised that they cast someone whose face hasn't moved in 20 years to portray one of the most animated faces in comedy history

More replies

Agreed! Maybe Leo is Martin Scorsese muse cause he is in most of the movies he has done like Tim Burton with Johnny depp 🥴

u/Additional_Meeting_2 avatar

Leo and Scorsese have made five films together and this will be sixth and Burton and Depp eight I believe. And one of those was an animated film. So it’s pretty close.

More replies

I was just thinking how cool it would have been to do an open casting in Jersey to find their "Sinatra" ala Skins UK.

u/Additional_Meeting_2 avatar

Well at least Leo and JLaw aren’t nepotism babies and actually are great actors. And I think she would be a god fit based on images, but I actually have never seen Ava Gardner’s films. Despite watching a lot of classic Hollywood films, maybe she doesn’t have as many classics as many others.

They are both talented you're not wrong there, and I have seen both in films that I genuinly enjoy but I get this way with a lot of actors who reach this point of fame where they're just so so famous I cant see past them to their characters, but I know hollywood doesnt care about my opinion and is always going cast big draw names.

Honestly, I don't get Jennifer Lawrence as Ava Gardner. She doesn't look like her, and J Law just doesn't carry herself in a way that's consistent with the "classy and classic" demeanor of women from that time period.

The only thing youthful about him is his choice in women.

More replies

More importantly, can we cool it with the musician biopics. Once Bohemian Raphsody was successful, everyone and their mother has been trying to replicate it.

Yea, it’s obvious to be Gosling. He is the dancing one.

Give it to Mike Faist, I say.

Exactly. Sinatra has a jovial vibe and this loose, easy-going body language, which is not how I'd describe Leo.

More replies

Why did my mind immediately think Joseph Gordon Levitt would be better. J Law isnt a bad choice to me though.

He does have Ava Gardners bone structure.

Good choice with Joseph Gordon Levitt.

He’s also a good dancer. I think it’s weird to use someone Leo’s age and have no idea if he can dance

u/BoredDuringCorona94 avatar

Please no lol

Is that Ethan Suplee in the background?

u/Flums avatar

yeah it is

I think Levitt is too beautiful to play him tbh, I see someone like Cillian Murphy. He’s not ugly but isn’t conventionally attractive and has a more rugged look imo that matches Sinatra

Cillian is beautiful

He would have been FANTASTIC as frank.

Truly beautiful

Cillian would be great as he has the bone structure and the blue eyes. Cast members of Oppenheimer have talked about how it was difficult to do scenes with him because of how striking his eyes are. Christopher Nolan said that he initially started working with Cillian because of his eyes.

u/eescorpius avatar

When I saw the photo I immediately thought of Cillian as Oppenheimer because he lost so much weight for it.
