Captain New Eyes travels back in time and feeds dinosaurs his Brain Grain cereal, which makes them intelligent and non-violent. They agree to go to the "Middle Future" in order to grant the wishes of children in New York City. They are to meet Dr. Bleeb of the Museum of Natural History, but get sidetracked with their new children friends and run into the Captain's evil brother, Professor Screweyes.

Just remembered that as a kid I knew the main dinosaur was John Goodman but then I’d see John Goodman as the T. rex outside of this, and whenever Roseanne was on I’d think about the T. rex from this movie putting his tail in Roseanne’s vagina and saying “well HEY there friend!”
Edit: and the only reason this popped up again is because I saw a clip of Roseanne chastising Candace Owens for saying “Christ is king” and I was like oh yeah that cartoon dinosaurs tail lol
Two things from this movie that have stuck with me for my entire life:
•the way it depicts NYC was really evocative and romantic to me at five years old. Of all the media it appeared in that I was exposed to, for some reason this is the version that found purchase in my imagination. You get the genre of life you earn and I’m living an unimaginably dumb one.
•a flock of crows landing on you and covering every inch of your body and then flying away and you’re completely gone except for the only non-organic part of your body which falls to the ground dramatically is the most insanely badass way to die.
One star for each of those two things.
i see a lot of adults today concern-trolling about these kids being raised on random-ass schizophrenic youtube animation -- let me tell you something. i was an omnivorous dino-crazy child and my parents obligatorily bought this VHS tape for me, and even then, i knew it was total bunk; every generation of children has grown-up watching and listening and experiencing some variety of pure insanity -- if it wasn't this, they'd be throwing rocks at each other or jumping into sewers to entertain themselves. the kids will be alright, as much as they can be.
y'know, i've never seen a clockwork orange but i imagine it's a lot like this.
why the fuck did captain neweyes drop fucking dinosaurs off in the middle of new york city and expect nothing to go wrong?? also the kids were constantly kissing and i think they're supposed to be, like, 12--can we chill please?
this is a children's movie--i watched a man get Eaten By Crows. what the fuck.
Impressively strange for a mainstream animated film, "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story" blends prehistoric adventure, science fiction, urchin romance, and circus horrors into a bizarre but engaging broth. With a production pedigree including names like Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and James Horner, the animated adventure...or fantasy...or sci-fi flick completely embraces its offbeat sensibilities. It may not result in an animated classic, but it does make for an engaging experience.
Put roughly, the story involves dinosaurs who are brought to contemporary New York City on Thanksgiving day by a man in a flying saucer who gives them the ability to speak and fend off their basic thunder-lizard instincts. The plot also includes a one-eyed villain and two adorable youngsters.…
I was convinced for the longest time that this movie wasn’t real, that I had taken a bunch of other childhood movies and fashioned some sort cartoon fever dream that involved dinosaurs and a wizard and a clown.
Folks: I am pleased to report that I am not crazy. And this movie is very real.
