Martina Sorbara is more well known as the singer songwriter fronting electro pop band, Dragonette. Before going dancey, her incarnation was more granola, more folk pop and cutesy, a'la Shawn Colvin or Sheryl Crow. Having listened to her debut album, let's just say, thank God she decided she decided to go to more synthetic territories. This album, while technically harmless and benign, is kind of boring. It's filled with guitar folk songs which, while poppy and melodic, are difficult to differentiate. Her personality too seems too friendly at times. Where's the edge? There is plenty in Dragonette but none here. Her lyrics are thankfully simple and easy to decipher (unlike fellow Canuck, Alanis) but as a whole, this just made me want to listen to Dragonette again.

By far, the standouts on this album are both "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Bonnie and Clyde II" (the former version is simple and piano driven, while the latter has heartbeat like drums). Both versions are phenomenal, moving like few other songs I've heard. The rest of the album is less memorable, but still worth listening.

A very exquisite vocalist and highly enjoyable tunes. Mostly just singer-songwriter with a tad bit of country thrown in. Her wonderful voice makes up for the filler like tracks. She's just gorgeous, pick this up if you like the musical stylings of Jewel or even the Dixie Chicks.
