Reviews
- Edited 6 months agoAlbum Revolution #2:
Even dealing with the fact that "Universal Records" dropped him like a bad habit, "Raphael Saadiq" refused to keep his head down...
As the solder that he is, "Raphael" continued to Produce great Music for various artists like "Joi", a terrific Singer, who was also married to "Big Gipp" from the Classic "Hip Hop" group, "Goodie Mob".....With other things in the works as well, "Raphael" restarted his "Pookie Entertainment" label, that also released the Classic "Lucy Pearl" album....He also was invited to perform at "The House of Blues" venue in "Los Angeles, Ca", which brought about the "All Hits At The House Of Blues" release...
This 2 "CD" set of performances, really focused on the material from the "Instant Vintage" album....I still LAUGH at the fact that after "Universal" did what they did, that "Instant Vintage" was a "Grammy" WINNING album...LOL, that's what they get!!!!!
Sorry, got side tracked...
But anyway, along with Band members, "Elijah Baker" (Bass) who was also in "Tony Toni Tone'", "Preston Crump" (also Bass), "Khari Parker" (Drums), "Charlie Bereal" and "Rob Bacon" (Guitars), "Dean "DC" Charles" (Keyboards), "Kelvin Wooten" (also Keyboards, and Tuba), "David "El Indio" García" (Percussion), and Vocalists, "Keisha Jackson", "Lejon Walker" and "Whild "Screechy Peachy" Peach", hearing "Raphael" pour out his heart on live versions of songs like, "Faithful", the Classic "Ask Of You" and "Get Involved" sounds RIGHTEOUS!!!!!
He even had guess appearances from the likes of "Devin The Dude" ("Just A Man"), "Joi" ("Copy Cat" and "MIssing You") who was mentioned above, "Goapele" and "Ledisi" ("Different Times"), and THE VOICE "Leslie Wilson" of "The New Birth" ("Uptown").....
The wonderful thing was that "Raphael" was also reunited with his "Tony Toni Tone'" mates "Dwayne Wiggins" and "Timothy Christian Riley", for various "TTT" Classics, like "Lay Your Head On My Pillow", "Whatever You Want" and "Anniversary", even though some of them are TOO SHORT for my personal taste....
The CD set is capped off with a FANTASTIC performance of "Be Here"....Bringing out the reclusive "D'Angelo" again, this joint ended with a Drums and Guitar Extravaganza!!!!!!
I really feel like this is Vinyl worthy, and maybe one day, "Raphael" might reach back to make it happen...Anyway, I feel like this has been forgotten, which is a MASSIVE PROBLEM!!!! So, if anyone out there feels the need to try this out, just DO IT!!!!!!
