The Producers

As usual, the bulk of the album’s production is expected to be handled by Eilish’s brother FINNEAS.

The Recording Process

Eilish worked on the album heavily during COVID quarantine with her brother.

“I don’t think I would’ve made the same album, or even the album at all, if it weren’t for Covid,” she told Stephen Colbert earlier this year. “That doesn’t mean it’s about Covid at all, it’s just that, when things are different in your life, you’re different. That’s just how it is. So, I have to thank Covid for that, and that’s about it.”

Eilish hasn’t revealed too many details about the project but said that she wants to showcase some artistic versatility. “There’s a couple of moments on this album where I pull some tricks out. It’s really just about what I feel like sounds good,“ she said to Colbert.

FINNEAS told Australia’s Sun Times that they didn’t envision the project dropping during the height of the pandemic.

“Billie’s album, and my album, they won’t be a bummer COVID record,” he said. “I have a desperate desire not to release them during COVID-19. It’s the vaccine record! I want it to be the album everyone’s out dancing in the streets to."

The teen singer also explained to Vanity Fair that every song on the album “feels exactly how I want it to. There isn’t one song, or one part of one song, that I wish was this or that I wish it was that.”

In a recent British Vogue interview, Eilish explained that the record was created during her unplanned off time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With no deadline, [Billie and Finneas] swam and cycled and fought and ordered Taco Bell, surrounded by their dogs, and wrote songs about coming of age and realising your worth,” wrote Laura Snapes. “Eilish kindled a love of songwriting, which once tormented her, and learnt to engineer. She’s proud of the work.”

Eilish noted how she’s evolved as an artist.

“I’ve grown so much and gotten so much better in my voice, it’s crazy to think about,” she said. “I think change is one of the best gifts in the world… Because I was very angry. There’s so much anger in those songs – anger and disappointment and frustration.”
