Cat Ballou Blu-ray
Posted May 15, 2024 07:26 PM by
Sony Pictures is preparing a Blu-ray release of Elliot Silverstein's Cat Ballou (1965), starring Jane Fonda, Lee Marvin, Michael Callan, Dwayne Hickman, and Nat 'King' Cole. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on June 18.
Description: When hired gun Tim Strawn (Lee Marvin) kills her rancher father, Cat Ballou (Jane Fonda) becomes an outlaw set on vengeance. Enlisting the help of washed-up gunslinger Kid Shelleen (also Marvin) as well as the handsome bandit Clay Boone (Michael Callan), Cat strikes back at the land-development company that employed Strawn, and eventually targets the assassin himself. Adding to the lively comedic mood of the film are narrative song performances by Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye.
This is EXCELLENT news! I, too, was looking at the Twilight Time release on eBay. (The cheapest item was $150.00 or so.) I will definitely add this to my collection. I haven't seen it, but I've heard that it's pretty darn good.
@Bolo Seagull You wanna lose the Isolated Score while Nick Redman is no longer with us? Fine, be that way. But my preferences are as usual when it comes to Audio options and Extras, "Leave no rock unturned."
Great news for everyone who missed out on the Twilight Time release. Though this will likely lack the isolated score and commentary tracks. I wonder how the PQ will compare. Usually, Sony reuses the TT masters.
@SwatDB the Twilight Time release is out of print and I would have to pay crazy prices to get a copy, only for special features I will likely never watch. This edition will be fine by me.
Love this movie and happy it's getting a wider release, but to be that guy - I had really been hoping this would be part of their Columbia Classics 4K. The film itself deserves the Criterion/Arrow deluxe level treatment and renewed appreciation of its brilliant comedy. Fingers crossed this is more than a simple reissue because an intern found the old HD master.
