October 10, 2023 |  7:00 pm  |  Etter-Harbin Alumni Center

On Tuesday, October 10, in conjunction with The University of Texas Athenaeum, the Strauss Center, The LBJ School of Public Affairs, The Civitas Institute, and the Clements Center will co-sponsor an event with Senator John Cornyn. The talk was moderated by Dean Bobby Chesney of UT’s School of Law and Program Lead of Strauss’ Cybersecurity program.

Senator John Cornyn was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002 and is serving his fourth term. He sits on the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees. From 2013 until 2019, John served as the Republican Whip, the second-highest-ranking position in the Senate Republican Conference. He also served as a district judge, a member of the Texas Supreme Court, and Texas Attorney General.

During his remarks, Senator Cornyn discussed the Israel- Hammas conflict and its larger implications with a war breaking out. He also touched on Iran and Russia’s interests and roles in the conflict. Senator Cornyn moved on to addressing American sentiments regarding providing U.S. support to Ukraine in the war against Russia and the broader topic of deterring the People’s Republic of China. He greatly emphasized that while the U.S. may not be prepared now, it is getting prepared to deal with this multifront challenge and provide material to allies around the world to defend themselves.
