Whether it’s hopping the cafes and Christmas markets or living through history in the palaces and museums, you can’t go wrong in Vienna, probably the best city in Central Europe (each entitled to their own opinion, of course). I always felt safe and comfortable in this pedestrian-friendly, clean, welcoming place. The city center is larger than your Bruges or Salzburg, but that’s because Vienna really packs a punch for its size. Yet even while feeling sprawling, you still get this small-town charm that is missing in the likes of Lisbon or Amsterdam. I don’t know how to describe it.

The gardens at the backyard of Schönbrunn are absolutely beautiful. I recommend you to just go to walk to the gardens, they are free of charge. The few gardens (and the maze) where you need to pay to enter are not worth it. The free ones are much more beautiful. Walk up to the Gloriette for an amazing view.

Nice zoo to visit, a lot of interesting animals. A good, marked trail to follow to help you see all the animals.

At the zoo we visited the Biergarten restaurant. The food was good, but the service a bit too unfriendly. The waiter came with the check and immadiatelly asked us how much tip we will give him. I prefer the waiter to tell us how much the check is and then we will tell him about the tip. It made us feel he was just interested in the money, not the experience we had.

The market at City Hall is advertised as the largest in Vienna but I actually found it to be quite small- easily walked at a slow pace in less than an hour. The backdrop is the gorgeous city hall building Rathaus constructed in the mid to late 1800's. The ornate details are incredible and you should walk around the building to take it all in. The market had some beautiful decor, lots of lights that provided a magical glow in the evening and a vintage ferris wheel and merry go round. Some good food and drink options as well.

So much fun 😆 proper old school. The rides are actually terrifying. Make sure you bring cash because card payments might not be accepted at some rides. You have to pay for every ride you want to go on.

VERY touristy area. Like the Times Square of Vienna. The church is impressive and there are some stores that make the visit worth it, but otherwise I don’t recommend spending a ton of time here when visiting Vienna.

We walked all through the Ringstrasse and admired all the beautiful and breath taking architecture of all the buildings . It was a worthy tour where we could also go through the Stadtpark.

Very cool to see, you can get some cool pictures and there is a space where you can learn about the structure and buy some souvenirs

Fascinating museum devoted to the works of Hundertwasser. We particularly liked his designs for bookbindings and buildings. Great fun to walk around this building with its undulating floors and mosaic decorations. Sadly we didn't get to see much of the temporary exhibition as the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building. So we were very glad we had visited the main galleries first!

The beautiful gardens are part of the Hofburg Palace and was built on top of the city's fortifications that were destroyed by Napoleon in 1809. The park was opened to the public in 1823 and remains very popular with locals and visitors alike.

Really good interactive museum. Had so much fun starting with walking up the musical stairs and later virtually conducting the Vienna Philharmonic! For musical history buffs there was a section with a whole room devoted to each composer with a link to Vienna. My non-musical partner enjoyed it as much as I did.

Grab a picnic, escape the city and sit in the park next to the water. It's calming and I believe dog free so no chance of your picnic being stolen. Enjoy !
