What is Journey to Damascus?

Journey to Damascus is an ecumenical retreat ministry. It is a non-profit organization made of volunteers, of Catholic and Protestant men and women, who are committed in serving and supporting the community in growing their personal relationship with God. Our members come from all walks of life and are members of various churches in Houston and surrounding areas. We have a main branch in Corpus Christi and branches in Houston and Austin.

Mission

The mission of the Journey to Damascus is to build a community of men and women united in Christ. All men and women from all backgrounds are invited to join our weekend retreats. Our reunion groups provide an on-going community support through local activities.

How does JTD benefit the community in Houston and surrounding areas?

Journey to Damascus promotes growth in faith and fosters unity in Christ for men and women from different backgrounds through our weekend retreats. Our members come from all walks of life and are members of various churches, who actively participate in volunteer activities to support their local communities, including but not limited to Houston, La Grange, Katy, Sugarland, Cypress, Magnolia, Tomball, Humble, Corpus Christi.

Who should go on one of our weekend retreats?

The Journey is for Christians from all faith backgrounds who desire a firmer foundation for their lives and for fostering unity in Christ. It is not for theological debate or arguments about denominations. We gather together to renew and strengthen our faith and to build a community of God’s children. Come with open minds and empty hands. Experience a journey of renewal. The Journey to Damascus is offered on separate weekends for men and women. During the weekend, which runs from Thursday at 5:00 pm to Sunday at 2:00 pm, there are 13 talks given by laypeople and clergy which touch upon, among other things, God’s gift of Grace, what it means to be disciples, how we can change the world by first changing ourselves, and the meaning of “Love and Unity.”  An atmosphere of communal prayer and daily worship permeates the weekend. Minds and hearts open up to the Holy Spirit. Small group activities foster a spirit of dialogue and mutual understanding. Hearts are touched, lives are changed and servant leadership grows the Christian community.

Authority

The Houston Journey to Damascus is an ecumenical Catholic weekend operating under the authority of the Ordinary of the Diocese of Corpus Christi.  Permission to operate in Houston was granted by Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston.
