Do I need a subscription to play Minecraft? | Xbox Support
You don’t need a subscription to play Minecraft. But if you want to play online with others on an Xbox console, you need at least an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription:
If you’re interested in other game features, Minecraft currently offers three other subscription services, all of which are optional:
Minecraft Realms
Minecraft Realms Plus
Minecraft Marketplace Pass
Legacy versions of the game, such as Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, might not offer these subscriptions. If you need help managing an active subscription, visit:
About Minecraft Realms, Realms Plus, and the Marketplace Pass
Minecraft Realms and Realms Plus
Minecraft Realms is a subscription that players can buy to manage online Minecraft servers (“Realms”). Unlike your standard, multiplayer experience, Realms remain online and accessible to anyone who’s invited to play, even if the host is offline.
Minecraft Realms Plus is an upgraded subscription option with additional perks, such as Realms with even more players and access to a variety of Minecraft Marketplace content.
Note Minecraft Realms Plus includes Minecraft Marketplace Pass perks. However, you can purchase the Minecraft Marketplace Pass separately. If you create a world using Marketplace Pass packs, your world might not be playable across devices unless you have an active Minecraft Realms Plus subscription.
Realms are available in Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on Xbox and PC. To learn more about what these subscriptions offer, and their rates, visit:
The Minecraft Marketplace Pass is a subscription service that gives players access to a large catalog of marketplace items, such as Mash-up Packs, Minecraft Worlds, and Skin Packs. New items are added to the catalog each month.
The Minecraft Marketplace Pass is available to use in the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for PC (Windows 10 or above) and the Xbox Series X|S. For more info about the Minecraft Marketplace Pass, go to:
If you need to cancel an existing Minecraft Realms, Minecraft Realms Plus, or Minecraft Marketplace Pass subscription, you can do so from the console or web.
Note You must be signed in to the same Microsoft account that was used to make the initial purchase.
If you’re experiencing an issue accessing your subscription’s in-game perks, make sure to reach out to Mojang Studios for support. Mojang Studios manages the Minecraft franchise and can assist with any in-game issues:
Organizers (adult accounts) in an Xbox family group can make sure that members (child accounts) can play all or some features in Minecraft safely. To manage these settings for your Xbox family group, visit:
If you don’t have an Xbox family group setup, consider creating a family group to maintain a healthy gaming experience on the Xbox network for everyone in your household:
Depending on your region and the service that you’re trying to access, a parent or guardian’s permission may be required for a child to create a Microsoft account. This is in accordance with certain regulations that promote child safety along with greater visibility and management of data that’s stored about your child online.
