- Nickname is ZZZ. "My full name is too hard for people to say, so I just tell them to say whatever they want to call me and I will respond," says Zhang. "Then it became ZZZbecause there are three Zs in my name. It is much easier for people outside of China to say. And it sounds cool. Triple-Z. I also like to sleep, so 'ZZZ' is perfect."
- Father, Zhang WeiHua, was a famous soccer defender and played for Shanghai ShenHua.
- Mother, Qin Wei, was a shooter.
- Started playing tennis at age 4 because he was quite small and his father didn’t want him to be a soccer player.
- Has trained in Australia and France.

- Also advanced to ATP Tour QFs at 2017 Shenzhen as Q, 2022 Naples as Q, 2023 Eastbourne and 2024 Marseille to become the first Chinese player in Open Era to reach ATP Tour QFs on all three surfaces.
- Owns 81-66 Challenger record (3-3 in finals), capturing most recent title at 2022 Cordenons.
